But I\u2019m hoping that he won\u2019t stay true to them\u2026 I view every film that I do as the last I\u2019ll ever make, and one day I will be right. So every time I want to put everything into the project at hand. I\u2019m never thinking, \u2018Well, I\u2019ll save this for the next one.\u2019 I don\u2019t ever want to think like that. I want each movie to be everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tTarantino has spoken for years about his plan to retire after making 10 feature films (the \u201cKill Bill\u201d movies count as one film in his eyes, as they were developed and shot as a single feature), saying he wants to leave behind a consistently strong and tightly curated body of work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cAnd do you believe him?\u201d Nolan asked the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/interviews\/christopher-nolan-talks-quentin-tarantinos-retirement-plans-and-how-he-feels-about-making-more-films\">\u201cReelBlend\u201d podcast<\/a> hosts in 2023 while promoting \u201cOppenheimer.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cQuentin\u2019s point has always been that \u2014 and he never, very graciously, he\u2019s never specific about the films he\u2019s talking about or whatever \u2014 but he\u2019s looking at some of the work done by filmmakers in later years and feeling that if it can\u2019t live up to the heyday, it would be better if it didn\u2019t exist,\u201d Nolan explained at the time. \u201cAnd I think that\u2019s a very purist point of view. It\u2019s the point of view of a cinephile who prizes film history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019m not sure that I would trust my own sense of the absolute value of a piece of work to know whether or not it should have been brought into existence,\u201d Nolan added. \u201cI\u2019m a big fan, as is Quentin, of films that maybe don\u2019t fully achieve what they try to, but there\u2019s something in there that\u2019s a performance, or a little structural thing, or a scene, you know, that\u2019s wonderful. And so, yes, I understand. I think he wanted to keep a sort of perfect reputation of something, but also kind of don\u2019t want to take anything off the table.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tNolan and Tarantino\u2019s friend and fellow filmmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/paul-thomas-anderson\/\" id=\"auto-tag_paul-thomas-anderson\" data-tag=\"paul-thomas-anderson\">Paul Thomas Anderson<\/a> has been a lot more blunt in his criticism of Tarantino\u2019s 10-movie plan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI know Quentin [Tarantino] likes to say, \u2018I\u2019m making 10 movies and then I\u2019m quitting.\u2019 But I could never do that,\u201d Anderson <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/features\/general\/paul-thomas-anderson-quentin-tarantino-retirement-tenth-film-1201950776\/\">said back in 2018<\/a>. \u201cI don\u2019t know how he could say that, or how he could take himself seriously when he says that. This is what I want to do as long as I\u2019m able to do it. As long as I\u2019m able to do it, I\u2019m going to do it. I think things can become peculiar when directors don\u2019t act their age maybe, or seeing them try to keep up with the kids or trying to be hip. That\u2019s never a good look.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAs for what Tarantino has planned for his 10th and alleged final feature remains to be seen. There was a time when \u201cThe Movie Critic\u201d was being prepped as his swan song, but Tarantino has since scrapped that screenplay. Even if Tarantino does retire, there are other artistic mediums through which he can continue to put out new content.
