Neither lasted more than 24 hours \u2014 both fell victim to presidential posting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _10sa9omi itxwjq1 itxwjq0 pn04iq1\"><strong>What happened?<\/strong> On Monday afternoon, the Logoff covered how President Donald Trump said he would charge a 20 percent fee to protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _10sa9omi itxwjq1 itxwjq0 pn04iq1\">But he reversed course on that yesterday morning, <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116918941071241802\">posting on Truth Social<\/a> that he\u2019d \u201creplace\u201d the fee with trade and investment deals that Gulf nations would purportedly make in the US.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _10sa9omi itxwjq1 itxwjq0 pn04iq1\">Yesterday afternoon\u2019s Logoff then covered how, after two recent deadly shootings, ICE had been ordered to temporarily stop making traffic stops nationwide.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _10sa9omi itxwjq1 itxwjq0 pn04iq1\">But this morning, Trump declared that traffic stops <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116923585931908111\">were back on<\/a>, posting: \u201cThe Radical Left Dumocrats would like to see this done, but it won\u2019t happen on my watch.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _10sa9omi itxwjq1 itxwjq0 pn04iq1\"><strong>Why did Trump flip-flop?<\/strong> The Hormuz fee was a Trump whim that many of his own aides had deep logistical and political qualms about. For one, they believed the move could push gas prices higher. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had said just <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CBSMiami\/status\/2077092264937984103\">last month<\/a> that \u201cno country is allowed to charge tolls or fees on an international waterway.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _10sa9omi itxwjq1 itxwjq0 pn04iq1\">As Monday stretched on, Trump was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/07\/14\/politics\/trump-toll-strait-of-hormuz\">deluged with lobbying<\/a> from Gulf nations who rely on the strait \u2014 such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates \u2014 and ultimately decided to back down.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _10sa9omi itxwjq1 itxwjq0 pn04iq1\">The ICE traffic stop pause followed the opposite trajectory. This was a decision made by administration officials without Trump\u2019s knowledge \u2014 and when he watched press coverage and heard right-wing criticism of it, he was irate, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/07\/15\/us\/trump-ice-traffic-stops\">per CNN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _10sa9omi itxwjq1 itxwjq0 pn04iq1\"><strong>What\u2019s the takeaway?<\/strong> The reversals show whose criticism and feedback Trump actually cares about.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _10sa9omi itxwjq1 itxwjq0 pn04iq1\">Wealthy Gulf leaders and the spectre of higher gas prices helped talk him down from his Hormuz fee. And on traffic stops, he ultimately cared less about tamping down national outrage over deadly shootings than he did about preserving his \u201ctough on immigration\u201d reputation and agenda.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><h2 class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup\">And with that, it\u2019s time to log off\u2026<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _10sa9omi itxwjq1 itxwjq0 pn04iq1\">A 67-million-year old Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2026\/07\/15\/nx-s1-5894586\/mystery-bidder-buys-t-rex\">sold at auction<\/a> for a record $50.1 million yesterday to an anonymous bidder.
