That failure highlighted the blatant conflicts of interest created by a case that pitted Trump against agencies he oversees, represented by lawyers who also answer to him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Further compromising the Justice Department&#8217;s ability to defend the IRS, a February 2025 <a data-ylk=\"slk:executive order;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;link&quot;,&quot;yLinkElementType&quot;:&quot;article_link&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.presidency.ucsb.edu\/documents\/executive-order-14215-ensuring-accountability-for-all-agencies\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">executive order<\/a>\u00a0bars the government&#8217;s lawyers from taking legal positions at odds with the president&#8217;s.
