No one knows exactly how it\u2019s going to play out, but console sales are <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/07\/14\/gta-6-wont-help-console-sales-says-analysts-demand-predicted-drop-20-29132051\/\">20% down in a year<\/a>? That\u2019s a complete disaster.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t really understand how <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/grand-theft-auto-6\/\">GTA 6<\/a> won\u2019t help at least a bit but then I guess the real question is how much worse would it be if GTA 6 hadn\u2019t happen to be coming out this year? People don\u2019t have the money and both companies aren\u2019t providing the reasons to get a console, in terms of the games.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d also say, to those that follow the industry, neither of them are projecting an aura that they know what they\u2019re doing or even that they fully understand the mess they\u2019re in. Most of you reading this probably already have a <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/playstation-5\/\">PlayStation 5<\/a> or <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/xbox-series-x\/\">Xbox Series X<\/a> but how many of you are going to get a <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/playstation-6\/\">PlayStation 6<\/a> day one, after everything that\u2019s happened in the last few years?<br \/><strong>Cranston<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Free will<\/strong><br \/>Really enjoying <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/07\/13\/black-flag-resynced-beats-shadows-sales-launch-despite-broken-offline-mode-29124530\/\">Assassin\u2019s Creed Black Flag Resynced<\/a> and glad it\u2019s doing well, but I hope more remakes is not the lesson <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/ubisoft\/\">Ubisoft<\/a> takes away from it. If you\u2019re constantly trying to get to another level then you need things that are higher level to fight and then a reason to go on after that, it\u2019s a loop that goes on forever.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not that I don\u2019t enjoy being stuck in these worlds, but it feels far less like I\u2019m being manipulated if I\u2019m choosing where to go and what to do, rather than always chasing the numbers game in a role-player.<br \/><strong>Mycain<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pirate code<\/strong><br \/><a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/07\/14\/ps5-fans-fast-track-pc-emulation-response-sony-ditching-physical-games-29135867\/\">Emulation isn\u2019t much of a solution<\/a> to Sony abandoning the PC and physical media but while I\u2019m usually against piracy, because it means hardworking developers not getting paid, I can\u2019t bring myself to care in this instance.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s yet another example of ordinary gamers caring far more about gaming and its history than any of the companies that could make a difference.<\/p>\n<p>At a time when even the most obscure (and usually awful) horror movies from 60 years ago can get a cleaned up Blu-ray release, <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/games-news\/\">video games<\/a> just blink out of existence once the severs switch off. I\u2019ve no intention of selling my games but should my console give up on me, cha ching! With all the digital only buyers, the chances of me owning a most wanted game should be fairly high and with the Xbox seemingly being left way behind my collection will be rare even though I get triple-A and double-A games.<\/p>\n<p>The rarity of people buying Xbox and wanting to complete a collection could mean a lucrative future. I own Lollipop Chainsaw and it spiked in value for a while.<\/p>\n<p>Fingers crossed (for me). Not quite Inbox magic, but it\u2019s definitely in the right area.<\/p>\n<p>The rumour sounds very believable; the question is how much it\u2019s going to cost. I suspect <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/nintendo\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\">Nintendo<\/a> will go for a fairly high price in order to make the cost of the base model (whose price is going up soon) look good by comparison.<\/p>\n<p>A dirty trick? Kind of but at this point if that\u2019s going to be the worst a company does then I feel we\u2019ve got off lightly. It\u2019ll also be a chance to see if all those people complaining about blurring, or whatever it is, on the current screen actually pony up and buy the improved version. Somehow I bet they find better things to spend their money on.<br \/><strong>Blintz<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The catalyst<\/strong><br \/>I\u2019m very curious to see where the upset about Sony going digital-only is going to end. Although I have mixed and matched, I basically went all-digital years ago and never really thought much about it. It was just the way things were going and not a conscious decision, which I think, from talking to my friends, is how it\u2019s been for many other people.<\/p>\n<p>Sony has already changed what the factory makes and the PlayStation 6 is obviously going to be digital-only from the start, so there\u2019s really no going back. Even if Sony did somehow give in to fans what would that gain them? An extra year of disc releases, that\u2019s literally it.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t get me wrong, I\u2019m totally against what they\u2019ve done and the way they\u2019ve done it. But I don\u2019t think most people are really that bothered by it. It\u2019s just the spark that\u2019s reminded them how awful Sony has been this gen and I think it\u2019s all exploded around this one issue, even though people are upset about a whole bunch of different stuff.<\/p>\n<p>Will Sony realise this? Will they care? I think we can all guess that the answer to both those questions is no, so I\u2019m curious to see how much needless damage they\u2019ll do to themselves over the next few weeks and months.<br \/><strong>Gorf<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Off the boil<\/strong><br \/>As an impartial observer, who doesn\u2019t play either franchise, it is kind of shocking how quickly <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/07\/14\/battlefield-6-tries-win-back-fans-upset-bot-lobbies-boring-action-29136760\/\">Battlefield 6<\/a> has been forgotten. I remember last year there were all the stories of it outselling <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/call-of-duty\/\">Call Of Duty<\/a> and then absolutely nothing. Until your story on Tuesday, I\u2019d completely forgotten it even exists.<\/p>\n<p>That always seems to mean some kind of fan revolt over the way the publisher\u2019s handling a game. Considering how many developers <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/electronic-arts\/\">EA<\/a> put on the job it\u2019s kind of shocking that they\u2019re already having problems with not enough content or players. OK, you can easily run amok in <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/grand-theft-auto\/\">Grand Theft Auto<\/a>, so those titles are probably not the best assessment of video gaming morals, but other games offer specific conscience-testing decisions.<\/p>\n<p>Take <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/fallout\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\">Fallout<\/a> 3 for example. I blew up Megaton at least twice, and the first time I facilitated that settlement\u2019s destruction was just to see what would happen. I guess, with regards to that game, helping to wipe Megaton off the map makes me a bad person, but I like to believe that I\u2019m a bit nicer and more considerate in real life.<\/p>\n<p>I would love to see the data. How many players make bad\/evil choices in games versus how many gamers are pure and righteous? OK, since these moral lapses only exist in a fictional digital world they don\u2019t actually matter, but I\u2019d like to know how players behave nevertheless.<br \/><strong>Michael Veal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Inbox also-rans<\/strong><br \/>Never mind F-Zero, do people think Nintendo will have an actual brand new, big budget IP this gen?
