Iranian officials <a href=\"https:\/\/en.mehrnews.com\/news\/246180\/Iran-UN-envoy-slams-repeated-US-violation-of-Islamabad-MoU\">insist<\/a> that Article 5 of the memo states that Iran is to arrange all passages through the vital passageway in Iranian waters. However, some ships have sought to bypass this by traveling along the Omani coast instead. Last week, Iran <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/uae-says-two-tankers-hit-by-iranian-cruise-missiles-strait-hormuz-one-crew-2026-07-13\/\">bombed several tankers<\/a>, killing one crewmember. In response, the U.S. has resumed its blockade of Iranian ships in the Gulf of Oman, in addition to bombing Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Trump and other U.S. officials have <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CENTCOM\/status\/2076278945993888116\">claimed<\/a> that the strait is open.<\/p>\n<p>Fox News Chief Foreign Correspondent <strong>Trey Yingst<\/strong> interviewed Trump on Tuesday and noted that traffic through the strait has drastically decreased.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShipping data trackers indicate that just 10 vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Monday,\u201d Yingst stated. \u201cLess than 10% of what normally goes through this critical waterway. When you say the strait is open, what do you mean?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s open if people want to go through it,\u201d the president said. \u201cWe\u2019re not opening it for Iran. That\u2019s the only one it\u2019s closed for. It\u2019s closed for Iran both in and out. But it\u2019s open now. A lot of things have happened, Trey, in the last few months. Pipelines are being built. We\u2019re coming up with great alternatives, including Texas, including Alaska.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite Trump\u2019s claim, the U.S. is not policing which vessels are allowed through the strait.
