Jean Carroll has received some $5.625 million in her sexual abuse and defamation case against President Trump \u2014 a payment that was delayed for years as Trump filed appeals in the civil case.<\/p>\n<p>A federal jury in Manhattan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/05\/09\/1174975870\/trump-carroll-verdict\" target=\"_blank\">awarded Carroll $5 million in damages<\/a> in 2023, after finding Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll and defaming her. The final payment includes three years&#8217; worth of interest.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Three years ago, a unanimous nine-person jury found President Trump liable for sexually assaulting and defaming E. Jean Carroll,&#8221; Carroll&#8217;s attorney Roberta Kaplan said in a statement to NPR. &#8220;Today, we are pleased to report that she has received the damages payment the jury awarded her as a result of that verdict.&#8221;<\/p>\n<aside id=\"ad-backstage-wrap\" class=\"ad-wrap backstage\" aria-label=\"advertisement\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The White House referred NPR&#8217;s requests for comment to Trump&#8217;s personal lawyers. Those attorneys did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment on the case.<\/p>\n<p>In a 2019 memoir, Carroll accused Trump of sexually assaulting her in the dressing room of a Manhattan department store in 1996. After she leveled that charge, Trump denied the claim,<strong> <\/strong>said he&#8217;d never met Carroll, and described her<strong> <\/strong>as a liar motivated by ulterior goals. Kaplan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2026\/07\/09\/nx-s1-5886298\/federal-judge-orders-release-of-5-8m-payment-to-e-jean-carroll\" target=\"_blank\">ordered the president to pay Carroll<\/a>. His order last week came after the Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotusblog.com\/2026\/06\/supreme-court-will-not-consider-5-million-verdict-against-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\">declined to hear Trump&#8217;s appeal<\/a> of the outcome.<\/p>\n<p>A larger potential payment is still looming in the dispute between Carroll and Trump: an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/01\/26\/1226626397\/trump-defamation-trial\" target=\"_blank\">$83 million award<\/a> in a separate defamation lawsuit filed by Carroll.
