He was 78.<\/p>\n<p>Neill&#8217;s family <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DauK0SrT6uJ\/?igsh=MTRvanI5MmJ5a2l5NQ%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\">announced his death<\/a> in a statement shared on Instagram, revealing that he died Monday in Sydney, Australia, surrounded by his loved ones.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>It is with immense sadness that the wh\u0101nau (family) of Sam Neill share the news of his passing. Sam was surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterised his whole life.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>His family added that while his death was sudden and unexpected, Neill had remained cancer-free following his battle with the disease.
