What happened to the wheels on the Trojan horse? And is this all just happening in Odysseus\u2019 head?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tMore broadly, Stewart asked Nolan why he decided to tackle an epic poem written down around the 8th century BCE that just happens to be one of the foundational texts of Western civilization. Turns out, the filmmaker did it because he could.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cComing out of my last film, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/oppenheimer\/\" id=\"auto-tag_oppenheimer\" data-tag=\"oppenheimer\">Oppenheimer<\/a><\/em> had way more success than I think we had any right to expect,\u201d explained Nolan. \u201cAnd that gives you an opportunity to get something made that you might not otherwise be able to get made.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tStewart was shocked that the man who generated billions with the <em>Dark Knight<\/em> films would need to prove himself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cYou would have had trouble, Christopher Nolan, after everything \u2014 after <em>Interstellar<\/em>, after <em>Inception<\/em>, after <em>Memento<\/em>, after <em>Batman<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI think it helped that it was very successful,\u201d replied Nolan. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cYou think the Oscar thing helped,\u201d nudged Stewart. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI think the Oscar thing helped. I think it all helped to go to the studio and say \u2014 because being <em>The Odyssey<\/em>, it needs a massive budget. It needs a massive cast. It needs a lot. I like to say it was a very hard movie, but hard for all the right reasons. It\u2019s <em>The Odyssey<\/em>. It should be hard. It shows up on screen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHard as it was, Nolan said they got it done early.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cSomeone was telling me that you actually completed it ahead of schedule, as you had with all of your movies, and under budget,\u201d queried Stewart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cYes. Never happens,\u201d replied the Oscar-winner. \u201cThe reality is, we went in at a hundred days. And by day 91, we couldn\u2019t have taken another step. So we finished \u2014 we finished at the right time\u2026Everybody was done. I mean, people were just exhausted. They\u2019d been through it. So it took the right time to make the film.
