One, however, is the story that never happened.<\/p>\n<p>Appearing on SiriusXM\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/tag\/conan-obrien\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em> Conan O\u2019Brien Needs a Friend<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/artist\/the-rolling-stones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Rolling Stones<\/a> frontman revealed that he never met <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/artist\/elvis-presley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elvis Presley<\/a> because <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/artist\/john-lennon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Lennon<\/a> warned him against it. Lennon, who famously met Presley alongside the rest of <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/artist\/the-beatles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Beatles<\/a> in 1965, apparently came away disappointed\u2013and later convinced Jagger to preserve his own image of the rock \u2018n\u2019 roll icon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remember John telling me, \u2018You should never meet your heroes. I would never meet Elvis, Mick, if I were you,&#8217;\u201d Jagger recalled. \u201cAnd so I didn\u2019t. I took John\u2019s advice. It was really stupid of me, really. I\u2019d love to have met Elvis.\u201d He added that Lennon repeated the story several times. \u201cMaybe my Elvis version would have been different,\u201d Jagger reflected.<\/p>\n<p>Related Video<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in the podcast\u2013which runs for over an hour\u2013Jagger opened up about his \u201cfriendly\u201d rivalry with David Bowie, which pushed both artists creatively. According to Jagger, Bowie became \u201cso competitive\u201d that he felt he had no choice but to respond in kind, recalling how Bowie once played him \u201cThe Jean Genie\u201d and jokingly admitted the glam classic was a \u201chomage\u201d after Jagger accused him of borrowing the Rolling Stones\u2019 sound. He also described Lennon as competitive in a different way: \u201cJohn and I were very competitive too\u2026 but we were more competitive in being sarcastic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The interview also touched on the Rolling Stones\u2019 recent AI-assisted <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/05\/the-rolling-stones-de-aged-in-the-stars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cIn the Stars\u201d music video<\/a>, which digitally recreated younger versions of the band. Jagger explained that artificial intelligence was used only for the members\u2019 faces, joking that he had to stop production after an early cut accidentally transformed Ronnie Wood into Jeff Beck. He also shared the story behind last month\u2019s viral impromptu pub performance in Oxford, revealing he joined an Irish folk session after chatting with a student over dinner and decided to sing an old standard on the spot after realizing no one else was handling lead vocals.<\/p>\n<p>The interview arrives just days after the Rolling Stones released their 27th studio album, <em>Foreign Tongues<\/em>, on July 10th.
