The 2026 film, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/theblast.com\/tag\/the-mandalorian-and-grogu\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"22571\">The Mandalorian and Grogu<\/a>,\u201d failed to meet expectations at the box office and <a href=\"https:\/\/theblast.com\/806960\/the-mandalorian-grogu-fades-disclosure-day-claims-box-office\/\">became the lowest-grossing live-action \u201cStar Wars\u201d film<\/a> in history. However, Disney seems hopeful it has a hit on its hands with \u201cStar Wars: Starfighter,\u201d set to hit theaters in May 2027. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fans were delighted to finally get more insight into \u201cStar Wars: Starfighter\u201d at the Disney D23 event on Friday. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.starwars.com\/news\/d23-star-wars-starfighter\">official Star Wars website<\/a>, Ryan Gosling\u2019s character will be called Kade Auberon. As he took the stage, he wore a new jacket featuring an inverted symbol on the back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cKade is a guy from the wrong side of the galaxy, whose fate is intertwined with the fastest starfighter ever built,\u201d Gosling said before giving fans a first look at his character in a trailer that has not been shown to the public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.starwarsnewsnet.com\/2026\/08\/star-wars-starfighter-teaser-shown-at-d23-ryan-goslings-character-name-revealed.html\">those who saw it<\/a>, the teaser opens with Flynn Gray\u2019s character opening a garage door and pulling a tarp off a starfighter. Kade immediately chastises the boy for touching the starfighter when he asked him not to. He explains that the ship is a decommissioned G-17 Imperial ship, the fastest ever built. When the kid says he\u2019s never heard of it, Kade tells him that there\u2019s a reason for that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The teaser then jumps into a series of quick shots that show the speeder flying across several planets and different action sequences. A speeder flies over a beach, a skiff speeder parasails over an oceanic alien world, a droid takes off in a large ship as soldiers try to blast it down, and a mechanical bridge retracts as one person tries to leap to get to another. The last shots show the full starfighter as the title comes into frame.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-shawn-levy-says-the-film-is-firmly-rooted-in-character\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shawn Levy Says The Film Is \u2018Firmly Rooted In Character\u2019 <\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-tiktok wp-block-embed-tiktok\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Star Wars website: \u201cIn\u00a0<em>Starfighter<\/em>, when a cynical rogue is confronted by his mysterious past, he is hurled into a dangerous adventure across the galaxy that puts him on a crash course with destiny.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Director Shawn Levy told the crowd, \u201cI am so honored to release this film on the same weekend that the original film opened 50 years earlier,\u201d\u00a0adding, \u201c<em>Starfighter<\/em>\u00a0embodies the themes of hope, family and adventure that have always been core to\u00a0<em>Star Wars<\/em>, but our story takes place in a period of time that has never been seen before which has been a privilege to create and explore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Levy went on to say: \u201cThis\u00a0<em>Star Wars\u00a0<\/em>story is firmly rooted in character, \u00a0brought to life by these amazing actors and all within an adventure that\u2019s filled with humor, danger, spectacle and the joyous spirit that has been the beating heart of this 50-year legacy that we all love so much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to Gosling, the film also stars Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although \u201cStarfighter\u201d takes place years after the events of 2019\u2019s \u201cThe Rise of Skywalker,\u201d it is said to be a standalone adventure that is not connected to the Skywalker Saga. It will be released in theaters on May 28, 2027.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-ryan-gosling-is-joining-the-marvel-cinematic-universe-as-ghost-rider\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ryan Gosling Is Joining The Marvel Cinematic Universe As Ghost Rider<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/theblast.com\/824739\/ryan-gosling-ghost-rider-role-surprising-connection-eva-mendes\/\">The Blast<\/a> previously reported, the \u201cBarbie\u201d star will be joining the MCU as Ghost Rider. The news was announced late last month during a San Diego Comic-Con panel. \u201cAs you know, this is a character I\u2019ve wanted to play for a long time,\u201d Gosling told the crowd.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/theblast.com\/824739\/ryan-gosling-ghost-rider-role-surprising-connection-eva-mendes\/\">The role has a surprising connection<\/a> to his longtime partner, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/theblast.com\/tag\/eva-mendes\/\">Eva Mendes<\/a><\/strong>. Although <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/theblast.com\/tag\/nicolas-cage\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"4141\">Nicolas Cage<\/a><\/strong> last portrayed Ghost Rider in the 2007 film, it also featured Gosling\u2019s longtime partner, Mendes, as Roxanne Simpson. Although Cage reprised his role in the 2011 sequel, Mendes did not.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More surprisingly, Shawn Levy will reunite with Ryan Gosling to direct the new Ghost Rider film. This has many \u201cStar Wars\u201d fans hopeful that the new movie will be a success, as this will be the second collaboration between the pair following \u201cStarfighter.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-another-star-wars-actor-is-joining-the-mcu\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Another \u2018Star Wars\u2019 Actor Is Joining The MCU<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Disney\u2019s D23 event, actor <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/theblast.com\/tag\/adam-driver\/\">Adam Driver<\/a><\/strong>, who is best known for playing the role of Kylo Ren\/Ben Solo in all three movies in the \u201cStar Wars\u201d sequel trilogy, revealed that he will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Mister Sinister.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He joked that he would play Magneto, but <a href=\"https:\/\/theblast.com\/835221\/adam-driver-x-men-casting-disney-d23-event\/\">later reports indicated he would play Mister Sinister<\/a>. Many fans had a feeling that Driver\u2019s casting would be announced soon, as Marvel boss Kevin Feige had recently appeared on the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@happysadconfused\/video\/7664563717631151374\">Happy Sad Confused<\/a>\u201d podcast with Josh Horowitz to joke about the actor\u2019s \u201ctradition\u201d of turning down Marvel roles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although he did not disclose which roles the actor turned down, Driver told fans at D23 that \u201cKevin and I have been talking for years about maybe joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
