Bekah Brunstetter (<em>Maid, This Is Us<\/em>)\u00a0created and wrote the series adaptation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe first adaptation of her work, <em>The Perfect Couple<\/em>, was a hit for Netflix and has spawned a Season 2, which will be based on her book <em>Swan Song<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn other words, Elin Hiderbrand is hot in Hollywood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSpeaking with the <em>New York Times<\/em> this weekend, Hilderbrand offered, \u201cI think seven or eight other books of mine are in development.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe next logical step for many novelists \u2014 Brett Easton Ellis, Gore Vidal and Truman Capote come to mind \u2014 is to begin writing specifically for the screen, be it big or small. Not Hildebrand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI have no interest in writing television,\u201d the writer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2026\/07\/11\/realestate\/elin-hilderbrand-house-tour-nantucket.html\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">told<\/a> the <em>NYT<\/em>. She is, it seems, happy writing wildly popular novels. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHer attitude toward TV adaptations is to let the showrunner run the show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI will talk to the writer before they get started,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s their job to turn it into compelling television.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHilderbrand is not precious about seeing her work translated exactly from page to screen. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cPeople can go and read the book \u2013 and I hope they do \u2013 but the show needed to move along. It needs to move at its own pace, it needs to shift and move and change things so that every episode keeps you wanting more,\u201d the author recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/books\/2026\/07\/09\/five-star-weekend-series-elin-hilderbrand-book\/90847505007\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">told<\/a> <em>USA Today<\/em>. \u201cAnd I basically gave Bekah Brunstetter, who is the showrunner, carte blanche: \u2018Do what you want to make the best television. The only thing I was concerned about was Nantucket. I wanted to make sure that Nantucket was done authentically and correctly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHilderbrand\u2019s next novel is <em>The Thoroughbreds<\/em>, which she wrote with her daughter. It will be released in September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn her interview with the <em>Times<\/em>, Hilderbrand revealed she is already working on a new book, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/the-novelists\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-novelists\" data-tag=\"the-novelists\">The Novelists<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIt\u2019s about four writers who meet at the Iowa Writers\u2019 Workshop \u2014  where Hilderbrand was a teaching and writing fellow \u2014 and whose careers follow divergent paths.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI really wanted to write about writers and professional jealousy,\u201d she told the <em>Times<\/em>, adding that the story has been gestating \u201cfor a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<script async=\"async\" data-cfasync=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/pl30214220.effectivecpmnetwork.com\/9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<div id=\"container-9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\"><\/div>\r\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The series adaptation of Elin Hiderbrand\u2019s The Five-Star Weekend\u00a0dropped on Peacock this week.
