{"id":47298,"date":"2026-08-15T20:33:30","date_gmt":"2026-08-15T15:33:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=47298"},"modified":"2026-08-15T20:33:30","modified_gmt":"2026-08-15T15:33:30","slug":"kalshis-bets-on-politics-now-come-with-a-side-of-lawsuits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=47298","title":{"rendered":"Kalshi\u2019s bets on politics now come with a side of lawsuits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/seen-heard-and-whispered\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" height=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/media.washtimes.com\/media\/image\/2026\/01\/15\/SeenHeardWhispered-2550x375.jpg\" width=\"885\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The prediction market platform Kalshi stormed onto the political scene in 2024, when it went toe-to-toe with the Biden administration and won the right to offer contracts on the outcome of elections.<\/p>\n<p>But in the two years since then, Kalshi\u2019s legal woes have accumulated.<\/p>\n<p>Complaints of insider trading have abounded, with the White House even firing one of its own teleprompter operators after Kalshi said he was using his advance knowledge of speeches to make bets on what President Trump would say.<\/p>\n<p>Now Kalshi faces lawsuits in New York and California, which accuse the firm of wrongly sharing users\u2019 personal information and activities with the likes of Google, TikTok and LinkedIn.<\/p>\n<p>A user\u2019s trading and wagering information can reveal a person\u2019s risk-taking, interests and level of engagement involving topics ranging from politics, sports, social controversies, real-world events and financial markets, the lawsuits allege.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<p>    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2026\/aug\/13\/seen-heard-whispered-crowded-florida-gop-primary-kalshis-legal-woes\/\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>    SEE ALSO: Seen, Heard &amp; Whispered: A crowded Florida GOP primary, Kalshi\u2019s legal woes and the 40-touch voter<\/p>\n<p>  <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr style=\"margin-bottom: 15px;\"\/>\n<p>\u201cDespite the sensitive nature of the information collected through its Digital Platforms, Kalshi installed and permitted third-party scripts, pixels, and tracking technologies to operate on the platforms,\u201d reads one complaint, filed in a federal court in Manhattan.<\/p>\n<aside>\n<\/aside>\n<p>The other lawsuit was filed in a federal court in Southern California.<\/p>\n<p>Kalshi has yet to file formal responses to the complaints. The firm didn\u2019t respond to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/seen-heard-and-whispered\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Seen, Heard &amp; Whispered<\/a>\u201c\u2019s inquiry.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, New York Attorney General Leticia James sued late last month to try to shut down Kalshi, calling it an illegal gambling operation.<\/p>\n<p>But Kalshi has a major supporter in the Trump administration and Michael S. Selig, chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, who has told states to stop the lawsuits.
