Pirojsha Godrej, 45, has taken charge of Godrej Industries, stepping into the role previously held by his uncle, Nadir Godrej. The change took effect on August 14, 2026, marking another big generational shift in one of India&#8217;s most familiar business families.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"3\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>But who exactly is Pirojsha Godrej?<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>If the name sounds familiar, it&#8217;s because he&#8217;s already spent years building his own profile within the group. Long before taking over the wider Godrej empire, he was the man behind the rise of Godrej Properties.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"6\"\/>And his story is a little less predictable than you might expect.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"8\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>He wasn&#8217;t always planning to join the family business<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Pirojsha is the youngest of Adi and Parmeshwar Godrej&#8217;s three children. He grew up in one of India&#8217;s most prominent business families, but that didn&#8217;t necessarily mean he was set on becoming a businessman.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"13\"\/>In his early twenties, he was actually more interested in public policy.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"15\"\/>In 2002, he interned at Hillary Clinton&#8217;s US Senate office and also worked with India&#8217;s Ministry of External Affairs. At one point, politics was reportedly something he had considered as a possible career.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"17\"\/>Then he changed direction.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"19\"\/>In 2004, Pirojsha joined Godrej Properties, which at the time was a much smaller part of the family business. What followed was a career that would eventually put him in charge of one of India&#8217;s biggest real estate companies.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"22\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>The Godrej Properties story<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Pirojsha became Managing Director and CEO of Godrej Properties at just 31.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"25\"\/>Over the years, the company expanded rapidly under his leadership. Godrej Properties now describes itself as India&#8217;s largest residential real estate developer by sales, a position it has held since FY21.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"27\"\/>One reason behind that growth was a relatively simple idea: don&#8217;t necessarily buy and hold huge amounts of land.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"29\"\/>Instead, the company often partnered with landowners and developed projects together. <!-- -->That allowed it to expand into more cities without taking on the same kind of land-heavy model used by many traditional developers.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"33\"\/>For Pirojsha, it wasn&#8217;t just about putting up buildings either. He&#8217;s spoken about being interested in the design and creative side of real estate.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"35\"\/>That interest has stayed with him even as his responsibilities have grown.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"37\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Now he&#8217;s taking over the bigger Godrej group<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Pirojsha&#8217;s new job is on a completely different scale.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"40\"\/>As Executive Chairperson of Godrej Industries, he&#8217;ll oversee a group spanning six businesses, including consumer products, real estate, capital, chemicals and other sectors.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"43\"\/>The group is currently valued at around \u20b92 lakh crore.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"45\"\/>Pirojsha wants to take that number to \u20b95 lakh crore within five years.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"47\"\/>That&#8217;s a huge target. And it gives his first few years in the top job a pretty clear test.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"49\"\/>But he isn&#8217;t talking about growth at any cost.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"51\"\/>Pirojsha has said the group has sometimes been too conservative with capital and has spread itself across businesses without building enough scale in each. His focus now is on making individual businesses stronger and giving their leadership teams more accountability.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"54\"\/>So the next chapter may be less about adding more companies and more about getting the existing ones to perform better.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"56\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>He&#8217;s also a collector<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Away from boardrooms and balance sheets, Pirojsha has a somewhat unexpected hobby: collecting rare books, manuscripts and memorabilia.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"59\"\/>His collection has included letters written by Mahatma Gandhi.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"61\"\/>He&#8217;s also a keen traveller. A 2012 profile noted that he had already visited 62 countries at the time.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"64\"\/>And yes, there are more adventurous interests too. Jet skiing has been among his pastimes.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"66\"\/>It&#8217;s a slightly different picture from the standard image of a corporate heir &#8211; and perhaps that&#8217;s what makes his story interesting.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"68\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>He&#8217;s part of a major Godrej family reshuffle<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Pirojsha&#8217;s appointment isn&#8217;t happening in isolation.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"71\"\/>The Godrej family reorganised its business interests in 2024, splitting the group&#8217;s operations between two sides of the family.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"73\"\/>Pirojsha is now leading the Godrej Industries Group, while Jamshyd Godrej and Nyrika Holkar took charge of the Godrej Enterprises Group.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"76\"\/>Within his own immediate family, his father Adi Godrej is Chairman Emeritus. His sisters Tanya Dubash and Nisaba Godrej also hold senior positions connected to the group&#8217;s businesses.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"78\"\/>And the man Pirojsha has replaced, Nadir Godrej, is his uncle.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"81\"\/>So this isn&#8217;t just a change of CEO or chairman.
