It was just drinking \u2018normally,\u2019 as one would drink water. I\u2019d wake up, have a glass of wine. Watch TV, read a book, have a glass of wine . . . Some people\u2019s insides can\u2019t take it. Mine broke down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Related Video<\/p>\n<p>Collins told readers that his \u201ckidneys and liver were waving the white flag,\u201d adding that he was close to dying but hadn\u2019t realized it. \u201cI just thought I was sick,\u201d he said. After being admitted for organ failure and remaining unconscious for most of a <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/08\/phil-collins-opens-up-on-2024-health-crisis-that-left-him-on-life-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hospitalization<\/a> in 2024, with his family facing taking him off life support, Collins was able to recover and find sobriety. But health issues beyond those stemming from alcohol have still plagued the Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame inductee.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s had five knee operations and is dealing with drop foot, a condition that affects walking due to nerve damage, Collins said. This latter ailment is why he now uses crutches. Despite his struggles, the hitmaker told Prog he\u2019s feeling better than he has in many years, saying \u201cPhysically, now, I reckon I\u2019m A1, 100%. I\u2019ve worked at it. Haven\u2019t drunk for three years. I do physio three times a week, to bring me up to speed. All is good!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New music isn\u2019t off the table either for Collins, whose last release was a 2010 covers album. \u201cThere are some things I could finish. And other things which are finished.
