20px), 720px\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/cdn.thehollywoodgossip.com\/uploads\/2026\/08\/GettyImages-2188648047-scaled.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-trellis-processed=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Suspected shooter Luigi Mangione is led into the Blair County Courthouse for an extradition hearing December 10, 2024 in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. <span class=\"image-caption-credit\"> (Photo by Jeff Swensen\/Getty Images)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The plea comes just weeks before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2026\/01\/luigi-mangione-will-not-face-death-penalty-judge-in-murder-case-tosses-two-federal-charges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mangione is scheduled to face a separate murder trial <\/a>in New York state court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI shot Mr. Thompson, and he died,\u201d Mangione told the judge today.<\/p>\n<p>Mangione is accused of fatally shooting Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel on December 4, 2024. <\/p>\n<p>The killing sparked a massive manhunt and generated an extraordinary amount of public attention, including widespread support for Mangione online.<\/p>\n<p>He was arrested five days later in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>Mangione has previously pleaded not guilty to both the federal and state cases.
