{"id":45866,"date":"2026-08-15T04:14:46","date_gmt":"2026-08-14T23:14:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=45866"},"modified":"2026-08-15T04:14:46","modified_gmt":"2026-08-14T23:14:46","slug":"corey-jackson-prioritizes-family-stability-mental-health-and-economic-security-in-legislative-agenda-inland-valley-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=45866","title":{"rendered":"Corey Jackson Prioritizes Family Stability, Mental Health and Economic Security in Legislative Agenda \u00bb Inland Valley News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/inlandvalleynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Corey-Jackson-Prioritizes-Family-Stability-Mental-Health-and-Economic-Security-in-Legislative-Agenda-Corey-Jackson-Legislative-Priorities-.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<h6 style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong><em>Assemblymember Corey Jackson (D \u2013 Moreno Valley)<\/em><\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As California lawmakers move through the final stretch of the legislative session, Assemblymember Corey Jackson (D \u2013 Moreno Valley) says his priorities are to ensure the government improves the material conditions of residents rather than creating additional barriers.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jackson told<em> Inland Valley News <\/em>that Assembly Bill (AB) 1578 and AB 1201 are two of his highest legislative priorities while outlining a broader agenda addressing mental health, homelessness, economic development, democracy and affordability.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBoth bills reflect a simple belief: government should protect people\u2019s dignity and strengthen our communities, not make their circumstances harder,\u201d Jackson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AB 1578 is part of a three-bill anti-hate package introduced by Jackson and Assemblymembers Josh Lowenthal and Patrick Ahrens following recommendations from the California Commission on the State of Hate.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jackson\u2019s measure would strengthen anti-hate training requirements for state and local officials.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jackson said the legislation responds to increasingly inflammatory rhetoric from elected officials.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cLeadership should lower the temperature, not raise it,\u201d Jackson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His other priority, AB 1201, addresses family reunification services in the child welfare system. The legislation would change circumstances under which parents with certain violent felony convictions can be denied reunification services, allowing greater consideration of individual circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bill advanced from the Senate Judiciary Committee in June on an 11-2 vote before being referred to the Senate Appropriations Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jackson described the issue as one of family stability.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhen a parent has demonstrated they can safely reunify with their child, we should not allow unnecessary barriers to stand in the way of that family having a second chance,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Economic security is another major component of Jackson\u2019s agenda.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jackson\u2019s AB 1149 concerns California\u2019s recycling system and market development payments for polyethylene terephthalate, or PET, plastic.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jackson said recycling reclaimers in the Inland Empire had been shutting down, threatening jobs and the state\u2019s recycling infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The measure was referred to the Senate Appropriations Committee after advancing from the Senate Environmental Quality Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEconomic development should not simply mean attracting investment,\u201d Jackson said. \u201cIt should mean protecting the businesses, workers and industries that are already creating value in our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jackson is also pushing AB 72, which would establish an Electric Vehicle Economic Opportunity Zone in Riverside County aimed at expanding electric vehicle manufacturing, workforce training and clean-energy investment, with priority placed on lower-income communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AB 96, another Jackson bill, would remove the high school diploma or equivalent requirement for certification as a Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist, opening the profession to more people with lived behavioral health experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Assembly passed the measure 73-0 in January, and it later advanced through the Senate Health Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOne of the biggest gaps in California\u2019s mental health system is not simply whether we have programs,\u201d Jackson said. \u201cIt is whether people can actually access someone they trust when they need help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jackson\u2019s AB 673 would establish an Unaccompanied Youth Support Grant Program for 16- and 17-year-old students experiencing homelessness who are not in the physical custody of a parent or guardian.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The measure has advanced to the Senate Appropriations Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jackson said his proposals reflect the interconnected nature of housing, education, mental health and economic security.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFor me, affordability means whether a person who grew up in the Inland Empire can continue to live, work, go to school and raise a family here,\u201d Jackson said. \u201cThat is the standard I want us to measure ourselves against.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jackson said rebuilding trust in government ultimately depends less on promises than results.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPeople do not need the government to promise them everything,\u201d he said. \u201cThey need the government to show up, solve problems and deliver.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<script async=\"async\" data-cfasync=\"false\"
