{"id":45567,"date":"2026-08-15T01:12:06","date_gmt":"2026-08-14T20:12:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=45567"},"modified":"2026-08-15T01:12:06","modified_gmt":"2026-08-14T20:12:06","slug":"fda-upgrades-egg-recall-linked-to-salmonella-to-highest-health-risk-level","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=45567","title":{"rendered":"FDA upgrades egg recall linked to salmonella to highest health risk level"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"article-0\">\n  <!-- lil observer --><br \/>\n      <span class=\"content__observer-marker content__observer-marker--fixed lazyload\"\/><\/p>\n<section class=\"content__body\">\n<p>The Food and Drug Administration this week escalated a recall of <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/egg-recall-salmonella-midwest-poultry-kroger\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">1.6 million cartons of eggs<\/a><\/span> over potential salmonella contamination to its most serious classification. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the FDA designated the incident a &#8220;Class 1&#8221; recall, which the agency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/safety\/industry-guidance-recalls\/recalls-background-and-definitions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">applies<\/a> to product recalls &#8220;in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The eggs were first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/safety\/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts\/midwest-poultry-services-lp-recalls-shell-eggs-due-possible-salmonella-enteritidis-contamination\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recalled<\/a> on July 22 by North Manchester, Indiana-based Midwest Poultry Services because they could be contaminated with salmonella. The eggs were sold under various brand names at retailers across the U.S.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Salmonella, a bacterial infection that can cause diarrhea, fever and stomach pain, usually spreads to people through food. Typically, symptoms resolve on their own, but some infected individuals can become severely dehydrated and require medical attention. The condition can also be life-threatening if the infection spreads beyond a person&#8217;s intestines, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/salmonella\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20355329\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mayo Clinic<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Midwest Poultry Services recalled more than 19 million eggs from Texas farms between June 6 and July 3.
