It was a question that was bandied about quite a lot back in the noughties. Definitely when I\u2019m 50, I thought. And here I am, less than six months away from that age, with more <a class=\"hm-link he-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hellomagazine.com\/fashion\/celebrity-style\/815705\/victoria-beckham-wearing-mini-skirt-in-50s\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"article-body-link\">short shorts, skirts and dresses<\/a> in my wardrobe than I\u2019ve ever had &#8211; and, yes, I wear them regularly.<\/p>\n<p><ev-engagement id=\"horizon_hello\" group-name=\"horizon_hello\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"eiPf7MYgv_\" data-wc=\"82\">And it\u2019s not just my hemlines that have defied my younger self\u2019s expectations. Around five years ago, during lockdown, when months of roots could pass unnoticed, I decided to grow out my grey hair. I\u2019d spotted the first few strands when I was just 22 and had spent the next two decades dutifully covering them up. As it turned out, I was pleasantly surprised. I haven\u2019t, therefore, adapted my wardrobe to become more \u2018age-appropriate\u2019 &#8211; whatever that is supposed to mean &#8211; but I have changed it up since embracing the grey. And that might be more to do with feeling I want to make the extra effort.<\/p>\n<h2 data-gid=\"eQ1SaOOKiz\" data-wc=\"6\" id=\"h2-4mst6jpwv\">Colour is back on the agenda<\/h2>\n<p id=\"eCPPzuaJheV\" data-wc=\"72\">Although I clearly don&#8217;t follow rules, it&#8217;s often suggested that warm beiges, earthy tones, rust and olive green don&#8217;t complement grey hair. I disagree. I love autumnal shades and neutrals, and have no intention of giving them up.<br \/>That said, this summer I&#8217;ve been introducing a few pops of colour &#8211; a shocking-pink shoe, a turquoise bag and even a bright-red dress. But, like many people, I fell in love with 90s style &#8211; and Carolyn Bessette &#8211; after watching Disney&#8217;s <em>Love Story<\/em>. I work in fashion and consume more than my fair share of it, but bright stripes? Really? When they first appeared on my screen during a late-night doom scroll, I thought: they\u2019re a bit wild. But then I seemed to slip out of the habit. At a time some might contemplate a more demure approach to jewellery, recently I\u2019ve been layering my necklaces, wearing bolder earrings and have even invested in two gold bangles, which really elevate simple outfits. Then there\u2019s the bra issue. Should I really be showing my bra straps? Probably not. Could I go braless? Absolutely not! Thankfully, I\u2019ve recently invested in silicone stick-on bras.
