{"id":44533,"date":"2026-08-14T14:44:51","date_gmt":"2026-08-14T09:44:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=44533"},"modified":"2026-08-14T14:44:51","modified_gmt":"2026-08-14T09:44:51","slug":"openai-sheds-senior-execs-in-pre-ipo-refresh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=44533","title":{"rendered":"OpenAI sheds senior execs in pre-IPO refresh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.axios.com\/o5ZqlBnF7SG8ScXfOXYQoBxufck=\/0x0:1920x1080\/1366x768\/2026\/02\/24\/1771970935663.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A wave of top OpenAI executives \u2014\u00a0including Sam Altman&#8217;s top deputy, a longtime chief operating officer and the chief revenue officer \u2014\u00a0has left in the span of a month as the company retools its leadership ahead of an expected IPO.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why it matters:<\/strong> Co-founder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2026\/08\/13\/openai-denise-dresser-replace-chief-revenue-officer\" target=\"_blank\">Greg Brockman<\/a> is getting more involved across every level of the company to build out a leadership team he hopes will catapult OpenAI past Anthropic in enterprise adoption, according to a source familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><strong>Zoom in:<\/strong> OpenAI&#8217;s recent personnel changes are driven by strategy more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2026\/08\/03\/ai-talent-wars-openai-google-meta-anthropic\" target=\"_blank\">the revolving door<\/a> that&#8217;s come to define the broader AI talent exodus.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>OpenAI chief revenue officer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/12\/09\/openai-denise-dresser-slack\" target=\"_blank\">Denise Dresser<\/a> is leaving the company less than a year into the role. <\/li>\n<li>The lab appointed Dali Rajic, most recently president and COO of Google-owned cybersecurity company Wiz, to replace her.<\/li>\n<li>Her exit comes the same week longtime OpenAI executive Brad Lightcap \u2014 the company&#8217;s former COO \u2014 announced his departure, along with the head of ethics, head of safety and chief futurist.<\/li>\n<li>Fidji Simo, the number two at the AI lab under CEO Sam Altman, left last month after taking a leave of absence for health reasons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Between the lines: <\/strong>Brockman is &#8220;a founder in founder mode,&#8221; according to a source familiar, meeting with more customers and teams across the company than ever before.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The departures are viewed as a long-overdue clearing of underperforming leadership, another source says.<\/li>\n<li>Brockman told reporters, including Axios, at a July roundtable that he was &#8220;very focused&#8221; on &#8220;the compute side and on the model execution side&#8221; last year, but that he&#8217;s now focused on the &#8220;compute-powered economy.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What they&#8217;re saying: <\/strong>Brockman is publicly framing the departures as a change in corporate focus.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Denise has led our revenue organization through a formative period for the business,&#8221; Brockman said in a blog post about the personnel changes.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;The way we&#8217;re deploying this technology is changing rapidly, and Dali will turn what we&#8217;ve learned into repeatable execution as we build out the full system to make AI broadly useful for people and businesses.&#8221; <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Zoom out: <\/strong>OpenAI&#8217;s safety and alignment teams have also seen a spate of departures.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This week the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/e49dfb75-f841-4466-a577-f7aaff8779a0\" target=\"_blank\">Financial Times reported<\/a> that the company&#8217;s head of ethics, Chlo\u00e9 Bakalar, left after less than a year on the job.
