{"id":44436,"date":"2026-08-14T13:48:52","date_gmt":"2026-08-14T08:48:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=44436"},"modified":"2026-08-14T13:48:52","modified_gmt":"2026-08-14T08:48:52","slug":"ny-film-fest-2026-currents-lineup-laura-poitras-ice-minneapolis-short","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=44436","title":{"rendered":"NY Film Fest 2026 Currents Lineup: Laura Poitras ICE-Minneapolis Short"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/new-york-film-festival\/\" id=\"auto-tag_new-york-film-festival_1\" data-tag=\"new-york-film-festival\">New York Film Festival<\/a> has announced the lineup for its Currents section, featuring films that expand the possibilities of the medium, including boundaries of narrative and form.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe slate of 15 feature films and 28 short films has as its centerpiece the world premiere of <em>Bardi<\/em>, from filmmaker and photographer Tala Hadid, for which she immersed herself in the world of horse riders in Morocco.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOther notable Currents selections include feminist meditation <em>At Night<\/em>, from experimental filmmaker Beatrice Gibson; Sebastian Brameshuber\u2019s <em>London<\/em>, about a driver and ride sharers traveling along the Westautobahn; Bruno Dumont\u2019s observational yet fanciful <em>Red Rocks<\/em>, about kids on the French Riviera; John Torres\u2019 neo-noir <em>The Remotes<\/em>; and Luise Donschen\u2019s <em>Tomorrow a Long Time Ago<\/em>, a supernatural story about unemployment and social estrangement amid German reunification in 1990.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe section also includes Jacqueline Lentzou\u2019s expansive coming-of-age story <em>A Day in the Life of Jo: Chapter Phaedra<\/em>; Ana Vaz\u2019s surreal <em>Hanabi<\/em>, set in contemporary Japan; Carlos Reygadas\u2019 <em>Heil Jupiter!<\/em> featuring a dreamlike look at authoritarian surveillance and transgression; Tiffany Sia\u2019s serene but sonically complex landscape film <em>Overt Listening<\/em>, tackling the Cold War legacy of China and Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAnd there are more intimate, personal stories including \u00c9ric Baudelaire\u2019s improvisatory<em> For the Moon<\/em>, a world premiere collaboration with kids at the National Institute for Blind Youth in Paris; Ted Fendt\u2019s <em>Foreign Travel <\/em>following four friends over a year in Berlin as they engage with Anna Maria Ortese\u2019s novels; Dan Sallitt\u2019s neurotic comedy <em>What Can\u2019t Be Mentioned<\/em>, catching up with characters from his <em>The Unspeakable Act<\/em>. And, as both a Currents and Revivals selection, NYFF will world premiere a new restoration of Fred Camper\u2019s <em>Suicide Note<\/em>, a diary-like work shot in New York in the 1970s and meant to be slightly different at each screening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAnd, as a blend of both an epic and small-scale film, Currents will screen Mariano Llin\u00e1s\u2019 330-minute biographical <em>Life of Jorge Luis Borges<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAmong the noteworthy filmmakers represented in the shorts lineup is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/laura-poitras\/\" id=\"auto-tag_laura-poitras_1\" data-tag=\"laura-poitras\">Laura Poitras<\/a>, who collaborated with Rachel Lauren Mueller on <em>They\u2019re Here<\/em>, a look at battles between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/ice\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ice_1\" data-tag=\"ice\">ICE<\/a> agents and anonymous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/minneapolis\/\" id=\"auto-tag_minneapolis_1\" data-tag=\"minneapolis\">Minneapolis<\/a> residents using dashcam footage, crowdsourced data and POV cinema.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cThe Currents lineup pushes against the conventions of cinematic form, putting into relief the standardization that dominates the film landscape,\u201d New York Film Festival artistic director Dennis Lim said in a statement. \u201cThis year\u2019s selection is especially thrilling in its scope and diversity, encompassing multiple modes of production and possibilities for film language and visions that range from the dynamically intimate to the genuinely \u2014 sometimes literally \u2014 cosmic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe 2026 NY Film Festival is set to run from Sept. 25-Oct. 12.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<script async=\"async\" data-cfasync=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/pl30214220.effectivecpmnetwork.com\/9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<div id=\"container-9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\"><\/div>\r\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The New York Film Festival has announced the lineup for its Currents section, featuring films that expand the possibilities of the medium, including boundaries of narrative and form.
