Mississippi.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/bossip.com\/4613688\/person-of-interest-arrested-in-tasia-fortune-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>BOSSIP <\/em>previously reported<\/a>, Fortune was discovered on Aug. 3, and nearly two weeks later, investigators still have not determined exactly how she died or classified the manner of her death. According to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.com\/US\/cause-manner-death-autopsy-woman-found-hanging-mississippi\/story?id=135585962&amp;cid=social_twitter_abcn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ABC News<\/a>,<\/em> the Mississippi State Medical Examiner\u2019s Office conducted an autopsy, but the official cause and manner of death remain pending.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That uncertainty has only deepened the family\u2019s concerns. Fortune\u2019s mother, Christy Spivey, strongly rejected the idea that her daughter died by suicide. Spivey said she had recently seen Fortune after she returned from a family reunion in Kentucky, and what she remembers is a woman who appeared to be doing better emotionally.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cShe was better than I had seen her in a long time. She was at peace.\u201d When asked if her daughter could have died by suicide, Spivey said, \u201cShe did not do this to herself. I know my daughter, and she did not do this to herself.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, Jackson police have not publicly identified a suspect or person of interest. In a statement released to the public, the Jackson Police Department acknowledged that concern and asked for patience.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe urge the public and media not to speculate or draw conclusions about the circumstances, cause, or manner of Ms. Fortune\u2019s death before the Medical Examiner\u2019s Office has completed its review and issued an official determination,\u201d the police said in their statement on Tuesday. \u201cUnverified information can cause additional pain for Ms. Fortune\u2019s family, friends, and loved ones and can interfere with an accurate understanding of the facts.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes has requested federal assistance with the investigation, signaling that questions surrounding the case extend beyond Fortune\u2019s immediate family.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Until then, Fortune\u2019s loved ones are left mourning a mother of four while waiting for investigators to explain how she ended up hanging from a tree behind an abandoned house.
