(She was born Sarah Maria Taylor, but goes by the nickname Sally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSally, oh, Sarah, another song with your name,\u201d she sings. \u201cYou\u2019ve gone around the roses, a mustang became. \/ A boat in the harbor that\u2019s called Sally Mae. \/ And oh girl, my girl, to me you\u2019re my goddess, you\u2019re my mother of pearl.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Simon and Taylor (seen here in 1981 with their children) were married from 1972 to 1983. <span class=\"credit\">Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cI can see you at 7, a child of divorce. \/ How can it be that we gave you no choice? \/ It was your job and Ben\u2019s to drown out all the noise,\u201d Simon sings of her kids (all seen together above in 2000) in her new song \u201cMother of Pearl.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Simon sweetly describes Sally\u2019s Capricorn tendencies, calling her \u201cstubborn\u201d and \u201cnot sure when to care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut when I been flat on my back, you\u2019re still there,\u201d she sings. \u201cAnd oh girl, oh my girl, to me, you\u2019re my best friend, my mother of pearl.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The \u201cYou\u2019re So Vain\u201d singer married Taylor in 1972, but the pair divorced in 1983 amid his addiction issues and infidelity on both sides.\u00a0They welcomed Sally, 52, and Ben, 49, in 1974 and 1977, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>In the new album\u2019s second track, \u201cMaybe I Never Loved You,\u201d Simon seemingly <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/08\/10\/entertainment\/carly-simon-takes-aim-at-estranged-ex-james-taylor-in-brutally-honest-track-after-18-year-album-hiatus-maybe-i-never-loved-you\/\">takes a brutal swipe at her estranged ex-husband<\/a>, though she never mentions him by name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe I never loved you \/ But anyway, I thought I did,\u201d Simon sings in the song. \u201cI married you, we had a kid \/ That counts for something.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Simon and Taylor (seen here together in 1971) welcomed Sally in 1974 and Ben in 1977. <span class=\"credit\">Michael Ochs Archives<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Simon also wrote a song about Taylor on her upcoming album. She was also married to James Hart from 1987 to 2007. <\/p>\n<p>Outside of her long-term relationships, she was linked to several famous men, including Jack Nicholson,\u00a0Mick Jagger, Cat Stevens and Warren Beatty \u2014 the latter of whom is the subject of her  brutal 1972 hit, \u201cYou\u2019re So Vain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Simon\u2019s new album \u2014 her first collection of original songs in 18 years \u2014 features 12 powerful songs, which she wrote and recorded from her home in Martha\u2019s Vineyard in collaboration with her two children. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Simon (seen here in a recent photo) was recently diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s disease and skin cancer. <span class=\"credit\">Carly Simon<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Simon (above) said that writing the new music has helped her amid her health struggles.  <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The musician revealed last month that she was <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/07\/27\/entertainment\/youre-so-vain-singer-carly-simon-diagnosed-with-parkinsons-disease\/\">diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s disease and skin cancer.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking on the music gave shape to days that did not always have much shape,\u201d she wrote in a statement in July, referring to her new album. \u201cIt gave me somewhere to go without having to leave the room.
