Greg Abbott.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\" class=\"speakable\">Projects bringing billions of dollars in investment to <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_politics_article_main-content_article-body_6_4108750\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/us-regions\/southwest\/texas\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Texas<\/a> also create enormous demand for electricity, raising questions over who will be on the hook to pay for potential power grid impacts. Abbott has moved to address those concerns, directing regulators to ensure data centers cover the infrastructure costs needed to serve them, and calling on developers to add their own power generation rather than shift costs onto Texas residents.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">Trump isn&#8217;t happy with Abbott&#8217;s approach, and called the Lone Star State&#8217;s stance toward data centers a &#8220;mistake,&#8221; pointing to the economic investment the projects can bring to communities willing to host them.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_politics_article_main-content_article-body_6_4108751\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/texas-gov-greg-abbott-effectively-pauses-new-data-center-projects-pending-statewide-grid-audit\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>TEXAS GOV. Greg Abbott, have sought to position the state as a destination for large-scale data center development even as officials grapple with the strain new projects could place on the electric grid.<\/span> <span>(Jay Janner\/The Austin American-Statesman via Getty Images)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">The president has made energy dominance and U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence central pillars of his second term.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">&#8220;For Texas to say no to data centers is a mistake in the sense that it could be bigger than oil,&#8221; Trump told Punchbowl News in an interview published Friday.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">&#8220;Data centers could be bigger than oil,&#8221; he predicted.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">Texas has become a focal point of that debate as soaring demand for the computing power behind artificial intelligence and cloud services drives a wave of data center development across the state.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">Neither the White House nor Abbott&#8217;s office responded to Fox News Digital&#8217;s request for comment on the departure between the two on data centers.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">Dallas now ranks as the world\u2019s No. 1 primary data center market, according to <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_politics_article_main-content_article-body_6_4108752\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/southern-state-just-took-top-spot-one-worlds-fastest-growing-industries\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Cushman &amp; Wakefield\u2019s 2026 Global Data Center Market Comparison<\/a>. power system.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">Balaji Tammabattula, chief operating officer of BaRupOn, which is developing a data center campus in Texas, told Fox News Digital that Trump&#8217;s recent pushback on the governor was &#8220;really helpful.&#8221; He said companies have already committed significant amounts of money to projects in Texas based in part on the state&#8217;s historically business-friendly environment.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">&#8220;A lot of companies made huge investments into Texas, and now all of a sudden he [Abbott] changed his stance,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">That constraint could now work in BaRupOn\u2019s favor as Texas pushes data centers to rely more heavily on their own power generation.
