The couple became a central plot point for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.realitytea.com\/show\/the-valley\/\">The Valley<\/a><\/strong> and were going strong during the first two seasons.<\/p>\n<p>After two years of dating, Luke <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realitytea.com\/2024\/09\/09\/kristen-doute-luke-broderick-engaged\/\">popped the question<\/a>! Things were going great for the couple. Eventually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realitytea.com\/2025\/06\/12\/the-valley-kristen-doute-pregnant-due-date-baby-news\/\">Kristen got pregnant<\/a>. Fans quickly saw the couple was having a difficult time transitioning from pregnancy to postpartum to new parenthood.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, Kristen was apparently so difficult during the pregnancy that it had Luke rethinking their upcoming wedding. To be fair, Kristen did lean into him quite a bit. The new mom had a difficult time while traveling, and she was taking a lot of it out on him when he was just trying to have a good time with their friends.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, Luke telling his friends about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realitytea.com\/2026\/06\/01\/kristen-doute-luke-broderick-wedding-plans-on-hold\/\">potentially calling off the wedding<\/a> before speaking to Kristen was understandably painful for her to hear.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-pregnant-kristen-was-someone-i-hadn-t-met-yet\">2. \u201cPregnant Kristen was someone I hadn\u2019t met yet.\u201d<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-tiktok wp-block-embed-tiktok\"\/>\n<p>Naturally, Kristen was upset about Luke\u2019s reservations about marriage. They spoke about it at couples therapy. Luke <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realitytea.com\/2026\/07\/22\/the-valley-luke-broderick-shocks-pregnant-kristen-doute-comment\/\">surprised his therapist<\/a> (and all of us) when he revealed that Kristen, while pregnant, was not someone he had anticipated. This statement seemed to suggest that had he met \u201cpregnant Kristen\u201d prior to the proposal, he may have changed his mind about wanting to marry her.<\/p>\n<p>Kristen said his words felt like a gut punch during a time that was already very volatile.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-we-can-put-pregnant-kristen-to-rest-lock-her-up-in-a-coffin\">3. \u201cWe can put pregnant Kristen to rest. Lock her up in a coffin.\u201d<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-tiktok wp-block-embed-tiktok\"\/>\n<p>This was probably the worst comment Luke made to Kristen. It may have been a joke, but it landed horribly. When Kristen asked Luke why he\u2019d want her to get pregnant again when he hated her pregnant self, he basically said he wants to \u201cget it out of the way\u201d and \u201cbe done with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When they have their second baby, Luke said he wants to say goodbye to pregnant Kristen forever, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realitytea.com\/2026\/07\/29\/the-valley-luke-broderick-lock-pregnant-kristen-doute-coffin\/\">\u201clock her up in a coffin.\u201d<\/a> Ouch. Someone needs to tell Luke that every pregnancy and postpartum journey is different.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-i-feel-like-misery-loves-company-there-are-times-that-she-was-miserable-and-wanted-me-to-be-miserable-too\">4. \u201cI feel like misery loves company. Instead of trying to understand her spiraling emotions (and let\u2019s face it, she was already pretty anxious even getting pregnant), he vocalized that she wanted to make him miserable too, as if she set out to do it on purpose.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He often talked about not being able to go <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realitytea.com\/2026\/06\/17\/the-valley-season-3-episode-12-recap-schwartzapalooza\/\">\u201cdo the things he liked to do.\u201d<\/a> But that\u2019s something every new parent faces. Their biggest issue was obviously communicating properly. Neither felt heard, so they often hurt each other with their words.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-5-she-shuts-down-every-advance-at-what-point-do-you-stop-trying\">5. \u201cShe shuts down every advance. At what point do you stop trying?\u201d<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-tiktok wp-block-embed-tiktok\"\/>\n<p>It was hard watching Luke try to push Kristen into having sex again before she was ready. He understandably wants their lives to go back to some semblance of normalcy (and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realitytea.com\/2026\/04\/09\/the-valley-kristen-doute-reacts-luke-broderick-intimacy-issues\/\">that includes intimacy<\/a>), but he didn\u2019t seem to understand that just because \u201cyou\u2019re cleared for that\u201d doesn\u2019t mean a new mom is ready to hop back into bed.<\/p>\n<p>It became a pain point for both of them, and many women watching, who have struggled to get their groove back postpartum, were undoubtedly cringing in PTSD.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, whether Luke was simply being honest about the challenges of becoming a first-time dad or he crossed the line with his comments, one thing is clear: his words hurt, and they became a huge talking point of the season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Will this irreparably change their relationship? Only time will tell.
