Games)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/warner-bros\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\">Warner Bros.<\/a> insists that <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/games-news\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\">video games<\/a> are still a big part of its business, as it confirms that a \u2018second instalment\u2019 of <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/harry-potter\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\">Harry Potter<\/a> game Hogwarts Legacy is on the way.<\/p>\n<p>Although it has been <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/02\/26\/hogwarts-legacy-2-rocksteadys-batman-hinted-2028-warner-27125447\/\">hinted at several times<\/a> by Warner Bros. you don\u2019t need any inside sources to know a sequel to 2023\u2019s <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/02\/06\/hogwarts-legacy-review-the-best-harry-potter-video-game-ever-made-18230040\/\">Hogwarts Legacy<\/a> was always a given. The action role-player sold over 40 million copies and its success was clearly a surprise for Warner, who were at that point convinced live service games were the future \u2013 not single-player games with no microtransactions.<\/p>\n<p>Although it\u2019s still unclear how the purchase by Paramount Skydance (if it goes through) will affect Warner\u2019s games business the success of Hogwarts Legacy is enough for the company to finally confirm that the sequel does actually exist.<\/p>\n<p>Little information was offered, and there\u2019s no trailer or even a logo, but in a letter to shareholders, Warner stated that, \u2018We expect games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second instalment of Hogwarts Legacy.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>As you can see, the catch is that there was no mention of a release date or even a name, although the implication seems to be that it will be a direct sequel to the first game. Considering that was set in the 1890s, there\u2019s a lot of wriggle room for time jumps, so it\u2019s impossible to say what setting they\u2019ll go for in the end.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the idea was that you play as a custom character, and not Harry Potter or any of the modern day characters, but there\u2019s no guarantee that will be the case for the second game. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<p>\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Hogwarts Legacy - Official Launch Trailer\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6H9ONlVdLhs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>There\u2019s no other official information to go on, so the only other sensible assumption is that the developer is still probably Avalanche Software, since they haven\u2019t been shut down and they\u2019re not known to be working on anything else at the moment.<\/p>\n<p>Although their quality standards have always been good, Warner Bros. has never been the most prolific publisher around, but in the last few years they\u2019ve released even less new games than usual and have instead talked about sticking solely to their four pillars of Harry Potter, <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/mortal-kombat\/\">Mortal Kombat<\/a>, <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/dc-comics\/\">DC Comics<\/a>, and <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/game-of-thrones\/\">Game Of Thrones<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>They still haven\u2019t got around to releasing a big budget console game based on Game Of Thrones, they haven\u2019t release a decent non-Lego Batman game in over a decade, and <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/09\/15\/mortal-kombat-1-review-fatal-attraction-19504792\/\">the last Mortal Kombat game<\/a> underperformed \u2013 none of which is good news when you\u2019re about to be bought by a giant corporation that has never expressed any interest in the video games industry.<\/p>\n<p>Gaming only gets one paragraph in the <a href=\"https:\/\/s201.q4cdn.com\/336605034\/files\/doc_financials\/2026\/q2\/WBD-2Q26-Shareholder-Letter-08-06-26.pdf\">shareholder letter<\/a>, stating that, \u2018Games remains an important growth lever as we work toward our long-term studios segment goals. During the second quarter, we released <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/05\/18\/lego-batman-legacy-dark-knight-review-arkham-co-op-nights-28416855\/\">Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight<\/a> \u2013 the highest rated Lego game ever \u2013 and Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, our second mobile game from the Game of Thrones universe.
