Kennedy Jr.\u2019s diet centered on meat and fermented vegetables as \u201ccrazy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rubio and his wife Jeanette appeared for <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/administration\/6025167-rubio-family-life-podcast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an interview<\/a> on \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=09XnM4XHjuk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Katie Miller Podcast<\/a>,\u201d hosted by the wife of White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller. The secretary was asked if he adopted Kennedy\u2019s diet, reportedly intended to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/lifestyle\/fitness\/trump-vance-lutnick-rfk-sauerkraut-diet-2f33bdf1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reduce visceral fat<\/a> and support gut health.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cNo! This is a crazy diet. This is a diet that consists of eating sauerkraut and meat. Now you understand \u2013\u2013 like this is not a sustainable thing,\u201d Rubio said, adding that Kennedy \u201chas to travel with coolers of sauerkraut.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not going to travel the world with a cooler full of sauerkraut,\u201d Rubio continued. \u201cIt\u2019s ridiculous. I can\u2019t do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The secretary of State asserted he was \u201cin favor\u201d of Kennedy\u2019s Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) agenda, to which Jeanette interjected, \u201cNo, he is not. He is completely not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Katie Miller asked what the secretary eats. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPop-Tarts,\u201d Jeanette replied, adding that Rubio eats \u201csweets.\u201d The secretary of State replied back that Pop-Tarts are \u201cone of the great American innovations in the history of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rubio said he also once tried the keto diet roughly five years ago and described the withdrawal from carbohydrates and sugars as a \u201cnear-psychotic event\u201d for him, prompting laughs from Jeanette and Miller.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cIf I did this in this job, I would be, \u2018Mr. President, we must bomb, you know \u2013\u2013 Paraguay.\u2019 And it\u2019s like, \u2018Why?&#8217;\u201d Rubio quipped. \u201c\u2018I don\u2019t know, I\u2019m just really mad. I haven\u2019t had any sugar.&#8217;\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe point is \u2026 I\u2019m not against this diet. I\u2019m not asking that we ban it. I encourage people to try it. I\u2019m just saying it\u2019s not for everyone,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Sean O\u2019Mara \u2014 who advises high-profile patients to go on the diet, sometimes called the \u201cliving carnivore diet\u201d \u2014 also encourages patients to eat more kimchi and grass-fed steak, in addition to cutting out alcohol and sugar.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Kennedy adopted O\u2019Mara\u2019s diet last year, as did Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick. Vice President Vance started the diet during Lent this year.<\/p>\n<p>The HHS secretary told The Wall Street Journal in June that the diet has helped him lose 20 pounds in 30 days and eased his irregular heartbeat. But O\u2019Mara told the Journal that the diet is not a cheap one \u2014 noting the \u201coptimization plans\u201d start at $8,000, with direct consultations priced at $18,000.<\/p>\n<p>Rubio was also candid during the interview with Miller about the Trump administration\u2019s efforts to rework U.S. foreign intervention measures, saying there\u2019s no \u201csingle typical day\u201d at the State Department.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>He also described other Cabinet members, including Kennedy, Vance and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent as the funniest people working in the Trump administration, and that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/in-the-know\/6025238-rubio-hegseth-cat-guy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">is a \u201ccat guy.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media Inc.
