They’re far less convinced the Founding Fathers would feel the same.

The United States just celebrated its 250th anniversary, but the year thus far has put the nation’s stark partisan divide on full display. Democrats and Republicans are locked in a highly polarized midterm election year. Americans say they’re losing trust in the government and its leaders. And Washington is divided over key issues like immigration, the economy — and the direction of the country.

A new POLITICO Poll found that U.S. adults are split over how the nation’s founders would view the country today: Just 27 percent say they would be proud, while 51 percent say they would be disappointed.
