Crime novelist Michael Connelly has written 42 fiction books, with another on the way in October 2026. The author has won nearly every major award in the mystery genre. Although most are great reads, none are as popular as those featuring Harry Bosch. This includes joint ventures in <em>The Lincoln Lawyer<\/em>, which is adapted on Netflix without Harry Bosch, and the <em>Renee Ballard and Harry Bosch<\/em> series, which is the source of the spinoff TV show.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><\/p>\n<p>After seven seasons of the original show and three seasons of the sequel, <em>Bosch <\/em>became a flagship IP for Prime Video. However, the baton passed from Titus Welliver\u2019s Harry Bosch to Maggie Q\u2019s Renee Ballard in 2025, when the Bosch: Legacy series finale served as a backdoor pilot for the Ballard TV show. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qBoSpBCuPmw&amp;t=504\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Connelly confirmed that Titus Welliver\u2019s Harry Bosch would appear<\/a> in three episodes of the new show to assist Renee Ballard without overshadowing her. Although he had sparse appearances, they were heavily impactful.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/ballard-season-1-ending-explained\/\" target=\"_blank\">The end of <em>Ballard<\/em> season 1<\/a> showed Bosch having a pretty big role in uncovering the corrupt police officers and crime ring. He helped trace the evidence and analyze the phone data. It seemed like they were building to something bigger, akin to the<em> Renee Ballard and Harry Bosch<\/em> books. However, <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/ballard-season-2-bosch-return-episode-count-titus-welliver\/\" target=\"_blank\">Welliver confirmed to <em>ScreenRant<\/em> that he would only appear in three episodes of season 2<\/a>. Despite erroneous reports that it would come out in July 2026, <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/ballard-season-2-release-window-michael-connelly\/\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Connelly updated audiences<\/a> that it would come at the end of 2026 or early 2027. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michaelconnelly.com\/ballard-tv\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Connelly\u2019s website<\/a> confirms that the season will adapt elements the 2024 book The Waiting, which involves Bosch\u2019s daughter Maddie and a serial rapist. It\u2019s unclear how much of the story will be used. However, the biggest bit of news is that Welliver is returning for another three episodes of Ballard season 2. No more. No less.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the numerous interviews I listened to when preparing to cover Ballard season 1, I got the impression that they were going to slowly transition Titus Welliver\u2019s Bosch out of the spotlight so that it could fully focus on Maggie Q\u2019s Renee Ballard. However, they didn\u2019t decrease the number of episodes going into the second outing. They also didn\u2019t lean into the dual lead book series. On the one hand, Titus Welliver is virtually synonymous with <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/bosch-amazon-detective-franchise-last-forever\/\" target=\"_blank\">the <em>Bosch<\/em> franchise<\/a> because he played the character for ten years. He is a major part of the reason why audiences fell in love with the TV show. Even with the prequel starring Cameron Monaghan and the sequel starring Maggie Q, Welliver\u2019s legacy will never change. His appearances feel like a nod to that. Plus, he&#8217;s just a phenomenal actor, who I&#8217;d happily watch in any role.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, it isn\u2019t completely fair to audiences, the actors, and the show to continue presenting Welliver\u2019s Bosch as the singular face of the franchise. The audience only has small moments with a character they\u2019ve grown attached to, which doesn\u2019t satiate their appetites. Because he keeps coming back, there\u2019s no closure with <em>Bosch<\/em>. The actors on <em>Ballard <\/em>and <em>Bosch: Start of Watch<\/em> have to exist in the massive shadow of the original <em>Bosch<\/em>. Amazon MGM Studios is already taking a gamble by putting the show on MGM+ instead of Prime Video. Everyone who watched Bosch had Prime Video. There\u2019s no guarantee that the built-in fanbase will have MGM+ or be willing to pay an extra $7 just to watch the show.<em> Bosch: Start of Watch <\/em>will be the first show not to use the books as source material. Additionally, it will be the first TV show without Titus Welliver.<\/p>\n<p>The actor confirmed that <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/its-officially-the-end-of-an-era-for-titus-wellivers-harry-bosch\/\" target=\"_blank\">his version of Harry Bosch will not return in the prequel<\/a>. Unless they have some large-scale ace up their sleeve, they won\u2019t have Welliver to \u201c<em>service the franchise.<\/em>\u201d Practically, it would be difficult to incorporate older adult Bosch into a prequel, and it would distract from Cameron Monaghan. All three feel like they\u2019re dooming the show, though I\u2019ll happily admit that I was wrong if it\u2019s a success.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps they\u2019re betting on folks wanting to watch Titus Welliver\u2019s new MGM+ show <em>The Westies<\/em>, so they think fans will subscribe to the streamer and watch both <em>The Westies <\/em>and <em>Bosch: Start of Watch<\/em>. That&#8217;s just speculation on my part. However, it seems like a foolish notion, if correct. <em>The Westies<\/em> is great, but it\u2019s not <em>Bosch<\/em>. In fact, Titus Welliver\u2019s character is the anti-Bosch, full of corruption and flexible morality. The creative team behind Bosch hasn\u2019t indicated any plans of doing so. However, Titus Welliver is open to the idea of doing another Bosch show.<\/p>\n<p>While promoting <em>The Westies<\/em>, Welliver did an interview with <em><a href=\"https:\/\/movieweb.com\/bosch-legacy-season-4-movie-titus-welliver-reaction\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">MovieWeb<\/a><\/em>, where he mentioned the possibility of continuing as Harry Bosch. The actor brought up that there\u2019s plenty of source material to work with and made a painfully true admission. He stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201c<em>I feel like the fans would really like it. They didn&#8217;t get proper closure, for lack of a better word.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Bosch <\/em>fans didn\u2019t get closure. Storylines didn\u2019t feel wrapped up, and the finale of<em> Bosch: Legacy<\/em> didn\u2019t bother to end the title character\u2019s story. Instead, it shifted attention to Ballard.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, the chances of another <em>Bosch<\/em> spinoff starring Titus Welliver seem unlikely. The actor has remained extremely busy since he ended <em>Bosch<\/em>. He is a main character in <em>The Westies<\/em>, so he\u2019ll undoubtedly return if the show gets renewed. Welliver has seven credits this year alone, plus another TV show in post-production. While another <strong><em>Bosch <\/em><\/strong>TV show starring him would be welcomed by the fans, it\u2019s likely he will remain a figurehead of the franchise that gets brought back in every season of <em>Ballard<\/em>.
