This led the court to change the grandfather\u2019s bond and release him from jail on his own recognizance for hospital care, so the county wouldn\u2019t have to foot the bill.<\/p>\n<p>Archer said Siders Sr. had fallen at the jail, and it became apparent that he \u201chas a serious medical condition that requires specialized care.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Gary Siders Sr. (top left), 73; Christina Siders (top right), 67; Elizabeth Siders (bottom left), 33; and Gary Siders II (bottom right), 36, have each been charged with 16 counts of endangering children.  <span class=\"credit\">Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cBased on the information the county was provided, his medical care could potentially bankrupt Vinton County,\u201d Archer told reporters Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were not going to put that burden also on our local taxpayers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Siders Sr. had been held in a county jail on $300,000 cash bond; along with his wife Christina Sanders, 67; son Gary Siders Jr., 36; and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/07\/us-news\/mom-of-almost-feral-kids-in-ohio-horror-house-gave-birth-to-conjoined-twins\/\">daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Siders, 33.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The couples\u2019 are collectively facing 68 felony child endangerment charges after authorities allegedly discovered all 16 victims suffering\u00a0from <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/06\/us-news\/relatives-of-the-16-almost-feral-children-found-in-ohio-house-of-horrors-had-no-clue-so-many-kids-were-living-inside\/\">serious physical harm inside the home<\/a>\u00a0on June 30.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/05\/us-news\/officials-had-no-idea-16-children-were-living-in-feces-filled-house-of-horrors-till-unrelated-warrant\/\">The Siders were arrested<\/a>\u00a0after local cops went to their Hamden home to carry out a warrant for an unrelated investigation \u2013 and allegedly found the kids living inside a horrific cramped 12-by-12 room littered with feces.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The Sider family\u2019s cluttered home in Ohio. <span class=\"credit\">New York Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The siblings \u2014 who are believed to belong to Gary Siders Jr. and\u00a0his wife Elizabeth Siders\u00a0\u2014 were taken to hospitals across Ohio following the rescue, some in serious condition, cops said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They have never been enrolled in school, can barely communicate \u2013 and some cannot speak at all, according to authorities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>An interior view of a room in the Sider\u2019s home filled with trash and debris. <span class=\"credit\">New York Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Department of Children and Youth estimates that placement costs for the siblings will run between $150 and $250 per child daily \u2014 adding to roughly $850,000 a year, or more than three times the amount generated by Vinton County\u2019s levy that\u2019s split between children\u2019s and senior services.<\/p>\n<p>South Central Ohio Job &amp; Family Service is consulting with its attorneys about setting up a trust for the the siblings after an influx of financial and other types of donations poured in following news of the case, the regional government agency said on Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>The state cash headed to Vinton County will allow the agency to \u201censure vulnerable children receive the safety, treatment, and support they urgently require,\u201d the funding request said. <\/p>\n<p>Additional expenses, such as court costs and police overtime associated with the case, can also be covered with the state money.<\/p>\n<p><em>With Post wires<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<script async=\"async\" data-cfasync=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/pl30214220.effectivecpmnetwork.com\/9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<div id=\"container-9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\"><\/div>\r\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The state of Ohio is expected to award $1 million to assist the 16 \u201calmost feral\u201d children rescued from a\u00a0feces-filled house of horrors \u2013 as prosecutors consider putting their parents and grandparents permanently behind bars.
