When creating music that\u2019s personal, \u201cYou\u2019re the authority,\u201d and \u201cNobody can get let down,\u201d she said. But when the subject matter concerns others, the writing process is significantly more difficult for her, and she puts higher expectations on herself. \u201cMaybe I\u2019m letting perfect get in the way of good,\u201d she told viewers.<\/p>\n<p>Related Video<\/p>\n<p>With \u201cthis fucking endless barrage of horrors it\u2019s hard to focus,\u201d she said, and when she\u2019s able to focus, she keeps second guessing and questioning herself and her creative choices. The last thing Apple wanted people to perceive in her absence is apathy. \u201cI just didn\u2019t want you to think that I was turning a blind eye\u201d or \u201cthat I didn\u2019t care,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She concluded her message with a vulnerable statement about where she is as a musician. \u201cI just don\u2019t want to let anybody down. I\u2019m letting myself down right now, I know that, as an artist,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know that there\u2019s other things to do other than writing songs, and I\u2019m doing what I can elsewhere,\u201d she told views. \u201cBut this is my job to show what\u2019s going on. That\u2019s what I want to try to do. I\u2019m going to keep trying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Apple wasn\u2019t specific about the subject matter she\u2019s struggle to write about, Hullman gave more detail in a caption to the video.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s been trying to find a truthful way to speak to the enormity of what\u2019s happening in the world, from the horror in Gaza and Sudan, to the cruelty being aimed at trans kids, to the assault on women\u2019s bodily autonomy, to the abuse and terror being inflicted on immigrants and their families, to the erosion of voting rights and civil liberties, to the disappearance of Indigenous and Black children, so often met with silence, and to so much more suffering and injustice than can be named or addressed in a single statement.<\/p>\n<p>This is where she is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Apple hasn\u2019t all together been missing from her artistic endeavors. She co-wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/06\/cara-delevingne-need-it-fiona-apple-stream\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Cara Delevingne song \u201cNeed It,\u201d<\/a> which was released in June.
