{"id":39862,"date":"2026-08-12T02:45:36","date_gmt":"2026-08-11T21:45:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=39862"},"modified":"2026-08-12T02:45:36","modified_gmt":"2026-08-11T21:45:36","slug":"lucy-davis-the-office-and-shaun-of-the-dead-actor-announces-incurable-cancer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=39862","title":{"rendered":"Lucy Davis, \u2018The Office\u2019 and \u2018Shaun of the Dead\u2019 actor, announces incurable cancer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media-cldnry.s-nbcnews.com\/image\/upload\/t_fit_1500w\/rockcms\/2026-08\/260811-Lucy-Davis-cancer-vsb-1656-e650b3.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p id=\"anchor-054df0\" class=\"body-graf\">Lucy Davis, who played Dawn Tinsley in the British version of \u201cThe Office\u201d and had a starring role in \u201cShaun of the Dead,\u201d said Tuesday she has breast cancer that has spread to her bones and is not treatable.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-3ff632\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cThe cancer is incurable, and too late for chemo,\u201d Davis, 53, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/Db56lZKNliF\/\" target=\"_blank\">said on Instagram.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-32ad45\" class=\"body-graf\">She said around 18 months ago she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer which has metastasized to her spine, right hip and ribs.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-ec1752\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cAs of now, I\u2019m trying to live out whatever might be left of my life in as fun a way as I possibly can,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-fbb275\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cI always like to find the teachable moments in anything negative that happens. And cancer has not disappointed in that regard; there\u2019s a lot I have learned from it, and I\u2019m grateful for that,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-cf6063\" class=\"body-graf\">Davis played Tinsley, a receptionist, in the British version of \u201cThe Office,\u201d which ran from 2001 to late 2003 and which preceded the American version.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-2b570e\" class=\"body-graf\">She also played Dianne, one of a group of people trying to survive a zombie outbreak in London in the 2004 film \u201cShaun of the Dead\u201d and Etta Candy in the 2017 film \u201cWonder Woman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-b44a8d\" class=\"body-graf\">She played Hilda Spellman, a witch, in the Netflix show \u201cThe Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,\u201d which ran from 2018 to 2020.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-344251\" class=\"body-graf\">Davis said that her first inkling of something wrong was so small she almost dismissed it.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-7d4ca8\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cThe initial lump that I felt, wasn\u2019t a \u2018lump\u2019 as such; rather a kind of hard spot. Really tiny. I almost didn\u2019t bother getting it checked,\u201d Davis wrote in the Instagram post.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-f0a3a5\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cSo I guess I\u2019m saying don\u2019t ignore anything \u2014 get everything checked out:),\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-785d08\" class=\"body-graf\">She wrote that pain from the cancer will cause her to be in a wheelchair at times, and joked, \u201cso if you see me toddling around in one, feel free to give me a push!\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-02b002\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cThe thing that has been most vital to me is humour,\u201d Davis wrote. She said she\u2019s asked that people not treat her as a sick person. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-bf281e\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cThere\u2019s nothing that will make you feel more unwell than being treated as if you\u2019re unwell,\u201d Davis wrote.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-af091f\" class=\"body-graf\">Davis also wrote that \u201cI\u2019m not scared of whatever comes next. I\u2019m at peace with it\u201d and that \u201cfor me, leaving my physical body just means going home. \u201c<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-c11ebb\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cAny and all grieving is for my family; it\u2019s far harder for them than for me,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-1d3ead\" class=\"body-graf\">Davis also said that she plans to continue working if able, and wrote that \u201cacting is one of the biggest joys in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-a55053\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cFor those of you on a similar journey to mine, I do wish you well. Cancer asks a lot from us, physically and mentally.
