{"id":39485,"date":"2026-08-11T22:59:02","date_gmt":"2026-08-11T17:59:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=39485"},"modified":"2026-08-11T22:59:02","modified_gmt":"2026-08-11T17:59:02","slug":"trump-may-have-committed-same-mortgage-fraud-hes-lobbed-against-political-rivals-bombshell-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=39485","title":{"rendered":"Trump May Have Committed Same Mortgage Fraud He\u2019s Lobbed Against Political Rivals: Bombshell Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5750140\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5750140\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5750140\" src=\"https:\/\/am11.mediaite.com\/med\/cnt\/uploads\/2026\/08\/TRump-mortgage.jpg\" alt=\"Donald Trump\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5750140\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jacquelyn Martin\/AP photo<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Trump administration has accused several political rivals of mortgage fraud, but an explosive new investigation has found President <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> may have committed the same crime himself.<\/p>\n<p>The bombshell <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/trump-mortgage-fraud-florida-principal-residences?utm_campaign=propublica-sprout&amp;utm_content=1786158002&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> from ProPublica reporters <strong>Justin Elliot<\/strong>, <strong>Robert Faturechi<\/strong>, and <strong>Alex Mierjeski<\/strong> points to a 1993 mortgage Trump signed on a Palm Beach home that he claimed would be his primary residence.<\/p>\n<p>But less than two months later, Trump was given another mortgage on a nearby property he also claimed would be his primary residence, the ProPublica report found.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s more \u2014 it appears Trump, who was living in New York at the time, never moved into either home.<\/p>\n<p>If those actions sound familiar, it&#8217;s because Trump and some administration officials have accused four political foes of similar crimes: Federal Reserve Governor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/news\/trump-demands-high-ranking-fed-official-resign-now-over-mortgage-fraud-allegations\/\"><strong>Lisa Cook<\/strong><\/a>, New York Attorney General<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/news\/breaking-doj-presenting-case-to-grand-jury-to-charge-trump-foe-letitia-james\/\"><strong> Letitia James<\/strong><\/a>, Senator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/politics\/trump\/thief-trump-shares-alleged-adam-schiff-tax-document-calls-for-prosecution-of-fraud\/\"><strong>Adam Schiff<\/strong> <\/a>(D-CA), and former Congressman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/news\/eric-swalwell-becomes-latest-democratic-official-to-face-mortgage-fraud-accusations-by-trump-doj\/\"><strong>Eric Swalwell<\/strong> <\/a>(D-CA).<\/p>\n<p>All four have denied wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>Trump hung up on a ProPublica reporter when asked if the Florida mortgages were obtained similarly to the ones in which he&#8217;s claimed wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>A White House spokesperson told the outlet there &#8220;was no defraudation&#8221; in the Trump mortgages, saying: \u201cThis is yet another desperate attempt by the left-wing media to disparage President Trump with false allegations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson added: &#8220;President Trump has never, or will ever, break the law.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>See below for a summary of the mortgage fraud cases against the Trump foes:<\/p>\n<h3>Lisa Cook<\/h3>\n<p>Trump&#8217;s then-Federal Housing Finance Agency chief\u00a0<strong>Bill Pulte<\/strong> accused Cook of mortgage fraud in a series of social media posts back in August 2025. He referred his findings to the Department of Justice, which has not yet brought a case against her.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, Trump used the allegations in an attempt to fire Cook from the Fed. A back-and-forth legal battle made it as far as the Supreme Court, which denied Trump\u2019s request to dismiss her.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/news\/foxs-andrew-mccarthy-argues-trumps-effort-to-fire-fed-governor-likely-to-fail\/\">Cook<\/a> can now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/10\/01\/trump-fed-scotus-lisa-cook\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">remain<\/a> in her position until a decision is reached in the ongoing case.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the court defeat, Pulte <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/tv\/trump-official-insists-fed-governor-lisa-cook-will-be-indicted-no-matter-what-the-supreme-court-does\/\">declared on CNBC<\/a> in May Cook will be indicted &#8220;no matter what the Supreme Court does.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Adam Schiff<\/h3>\n<p>In July 2025, Trump attacked Schiff, who led the first impeachment case against Trump, as a \u201cTHIEF\u201d while sharing an apparent tax document to make his case.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/114857687712359546\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a Truth Social post<\/a>, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/politics\/trump\/trump-accuses-scam-artist-adam-schiff-of-possible-mortgage-fraud-in-stunning-attack-against-political-rival\/\">accused \u201cscam artist\u201d Schiff of committing mortgage fraud<\/a>, adding that Fannie Mae\u2019s Financial Crimes Division was after him.<\/p>\n<p>No charges have been brought against Schiff.<\/p>\n<h3>Letitia James<\/h3>\n<p>James was charged with mortgage fraud in October by the president\u2019s former attorney and his handpicked appointee for U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, <strong>Lindsey Halligan<\/strong>. The case was later dropped when it was found that Halligan was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/news\/my-god-cnns-elie-honig-stunned-by-humiliating-implosion-of-trump-revenge-cases\/\">unlawfully appointed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Attempts to reindict James have since failed.<\/p>\n<h3>Eric Swalwell<\/h3>\n<p>In November, Pulte referred Swalwell to the Justice Department for a federal criminal probe related to a Washington, D.C., home, NBC News reported at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Swalwell later filed a lawsuit against Pulte, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/03\/20\/swalwell-drops-lawsuit-against-trump-housing-official-over-mortgage-fraud-allegations-00838984\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accusing him<\/a> of weaponizing the probe.
