In 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/bumble-nonbinary-users-message-first\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\">Bumble decided that nonbinary users can message<\/a> first after users expressed discomfort with not being able to on social media. <\/p>\n<p>Then, in 2024, <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/bumble-revamps-the-first-move-opening-moves-and-other-features\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\">Bumble launched Opening Moves<\/a>, a way for men to technically message first by responding to a prompt. The change was reportedly made due to <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/dating-app-fatigue-has-led-to-a-flurry-of-irl-singles-events\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\">dating app fatigue<\/a>, an issue apps have been dealing with for years now. <\/p>\n<p>According to initial tests of the latest change (in Canada between June and July 2026), 92 percent of women said they still felt in control of their dating experience. This\u00a0new chat initiation will remain as part of the reimagined Bumble experience, a spokesperson told Mashable.<\/p>\n<p>The company&#8217;s revenue and paying users have been declining year-over-year and it&#8217;s reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/life\/bumble-considers-sale-amid-download-decline\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\">considering a sale<\/a>, so this is likely a push to reverse that trend.
