It marked an on-screen reunion of the duo who also played a husband and wife on the 2014 CBS drama series <em>Madam Secretary.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The joint casting was not an accident. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe were kind of sniffing around to play together again,\u201d Leoni said at an NBCUniversal event Monday ahead of <em>Newlyweds\u2019<\/em> series debut this fall. \u201cWe had a lot of fun on <em>Madam Secretary<\/em>. The world got darker, and we wanted to get lighter. We thought we\u2019ve done this particular medium, and loved it, and we wanted to spend our days together.\u201d \u2028<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Added Daly, \u201cListen, we spent six years pretending to be married on TV, and I would get to do it again, but we actually are married. It\u2019s a miracle, it\u2019s really fun, it\u2019s cool, and we still like each other.\u201d\u2028<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Said Leoni, \u201cIt took 12 years, but we got there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Newlyweds<\/em> tells the story of a free\u2011spirited woman (Leoni) and a buttoned\u2011up professor (Daly) who marry impetuously after a whirlwind courtship. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019ve been told that we have chemistry, we were told that on<em> Madam Secretary,<\/em> and, hopefully, we exported that into this show,\u201d Daly said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Added Leoni, \u201cWe haven\u2019t lost it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While they have proven to have an on-screen couple chemistry, being one in real life has its advantages too. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOne, we don\u2019t need an intimacy coordinator because we are licensed to do whatever we want,\u201d Daly said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, \u201cWe get to start ahead of the game,\u201d Leoni said, giving an example with an exchange between their characters on their first date in the <em>Newlyweds<\/em> pilot. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI was looking at James, aka Tim, and I can read him, I know where he\u2019s going,\u201d Leoni said. \u201cWe just found this moment because\u00a0\u2011\u2011 maybe that happened somewhere else, but it happens in our life all the time, and it\u2019s fun. It\u2019s really fun to act with someone that you know so well because we are a little ahead with each other.
