Police said the circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-fb0ad0\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cThis is an active and ongoing investigation,\u201d the police department said. \u201cWe will provide updates as new details develop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-5ce0e8\" class=\"body-graf\">Terence Anderson, 65, who is said to be a person of interest in connection with Fortune\u2019s death, was taken into custody on an unrelated weapons charge, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wlbt.com\/2026\/08\/04\/woman-found-dead-behind-jackson-home-investigation-underway\/\" target=\"_blank\">NBC affiliate WLBT<\/a> of Jackson reported. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-bef9b4\" class=\"body-graf\">Anderson\u2019s brother, Tony Anderson, confirmed the arrest to NBC News. He said Fortune and his brother have a 5-year-old son together and that the child lived with Terence.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-cd6e7b\" class=\"body-graf\">He also said he does not think his brother was involved in Fortune\u2019s death. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-e0470a\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cSometimes they\u2019ll have a few occasions where they may get into it or whatever, but that was about it,\u201d Tony Anderson said. \u201cThey had their good days, their bad days, but I don\u2019t think he done nothing like that. The autopsy will tell actually what happened to her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-398568\" class=\"body-graf\">Christy Spivey, Fortune\u2019s mother, told <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.com\/US\/mother-black-woman-found-hanging-mississippi\/story?id=135497051\" target=\"_blank\">ABC News<\/a> that she last saw her daughter July 26 at a family reunion in Kentucky. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-9a6364\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cThis has just devastated us,\u201d she said, remembering her daughter as someone who \u201cwas strong-minded\u201d and \u201cfull of laughs and love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-2f2842\" class=\"body-graf\">Spivey said that the last time she saw her daughter she seemed to be in good spirits. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-a3d5fe\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cShe was better than I had seen her in a long time,\u201d she told the station. \u201cShe was at peace.\u201d <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-3b8676\" class=\"body-graf\">Spivey said she does not believe Fortune died by suicide. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-1a1e03\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cShe did not do this to herself,\u201d she said. \u201cI know my daughter and she did not do this to herself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-bdb57a\" class=\"body-graf\">Spivey could not immediately be reached for comment Monday.
