Surprisingly, one of <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/most-profound-science-fiction-anime\/\" target=\"_blank\">the most profound sci-fi anime<\/a> just arrived entirely under the radar. Disney+ quietly dropped an eight-episode series that deserves far more attention than it is getting.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><\/p>\n<p>Taking the acclaimed anthology into uncharted territory, <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/db\/tv-show\/star-wars-visions-presents-the-ninth-jedi\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Star Wars: Visions Presents: The Ninth Jedi<\/strong><\/em><\/a> premiered on August 5, expanding the fan-favorite short from the first season of <em>Star Wars: Visions<\/em> into a full eight-episode standalone story. Production I.G, the studio behind <em>Haikyu!!<\/em> and <em>Ghost in the Shell<\/em>, returns to this world alongside director Kenji Kamiyama, turning what was once a short standalone story into something much bigger.<\/p>\n<p> What makes <em>The Ninth Jedi<\/em> so interesting is how far it moves away from <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/star-wars-settings-underused\/\" target=\"_blank\">the usual <em>Star Wars<\/em> setup<\/a>. The Jedi and Sith are long gone, lightsabers have become almost forgotten, and Kara finds herself caught in a conflict involving an increasingly powerful warlord. It is still unmistakably <em>Star Wars<\/em>, but the story has enough freedom to feel like its own anime rather than another chapter about the Skywalker family. Despite being part of one of <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/longest-running-movie-franchises-all-time\/\" target=\"_blank\">the longest-running movie franchises ever<\/a>, this brand-new Disney+ and Hulu original is largely built as a standalone experience. To fully grasp Kara&#8217;s story without getting lost, viewers really only need to watch two specific shorts for context: &#8220;The Ninth Jedi&#8221; from Visions Volume 1 and its direct follow-up, &#8220;The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope,&#8221; from Volume 3. There is no need to sit through the entire Skywalker Saga just to know what is going on.<\/p>\n<p>The story picks up right after those shorts, following Kara as she trains under the mysterious Margrave Juro. She soon joins a small group of Jedi-in-training on a mission to rescue her kidnapped father, Lah Zhima, who just happens to be the galaxy\u2019s only living sabersmith.
