The understated tribute came as Duff continues her first major tour in years, giving the moment an added significance to the pair\u2019s roots as two young rising stars who came of age in the early 2000s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/t\/pop\/\" id=\"auto-tag_pop\" data-tag=\"pop\">pop<\/a> culture world.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\"\/>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDuff and Carter were romantically linked from around 2000 to 2003, during a period when both were on Disney Channel and in the pop music space. Carter was making his mark by releasing hit songs like \u201cAaron\u2019s Party (Come Get It),\u201d which peaked at No. 35 on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/charts\/hot-100\/\">Billboard Hot 100<\/a> back in 2000. He also made a memorable appearance on Duff\u2019s <em>Lizzie McGuir<\/em>e in 2001.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn the episode \u201cAaron Carter\u2019s Coming to Town,\u201d Carter plays himself as Lizzie and her friends attempt to get backstage at his concert. The episode concludes with Carter and Duff\u2019s character sharing a kiss, which was an explosive moment that blurred the line between the teen stars\u2019 real-life relationship and their onscreen personas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMore than two decades later, Duff\u2019s Philadelphia tribute was a reminder of just how important Carter was to that period of her life and her career. Following Carter\u2019s death in November 2022, Duff reflected on their relationship in an emotional social media post via Instagram, remembering the \u201ccharm\u201d he had and acknowledging how difficult his life had become in the public eye. \u201cBoy, did my teenage self love you deeply,\u201d Duff wrote at the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDuff also spoke this year about an unexpected experience that brought Carter back into her life. During an April appearance on the <em>Las Culturistas<\/em> podcast, she recalled speaking with a psychic who told her that someone named Aaron had emerged during a reading.
