The <a href=\"http:\/\/soonerswire.usatoday.com\/football\/\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Oklahoma Sooners<\/a> are eager to prove last year&#8217;s College Football Playoff berth was not a flash in the pan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">While Team 132 prepares for the season, the staff is hitting the recruiting trail hard to land future difference-makers to keep Oklahoma as a constant power in college football. The Sooners&#8217; 2027 class is pretty much set in stone, although there could always be some added commits or decommits. So, the staff is already making their mark on 2028 recruits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">One that has caught their eye is five-star EDGE, Jalanie George. The Arizona native is ranked as the No. 9 player in the country by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/jalanie-george-251057\/\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Rivals Industry Rankings<\/a>. He is projected to go to the <a data-autotag=\"e2d27eb1-fb64-411e-93e5-a29debbf9997\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/sports\/college-sports\/big-ten\/washington\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Washington Huskies<\/a>, as they hold a sizeable lead on the Rivals Prediction Machine. However, recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong believes the Sooners are making a strong push.<\/p>\n<aside aria-label=\"advertisement\" class=\"gnt_x__c gnt_x__lbl gnt_x__al\"\/>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/news\/wiltfong-whiparound-venables-franklin-golesh-riley-four-programs-building-serious-2028-recruiting-momentum\/\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Wiltfong reports<\/a> that Oklahoma is among the teams near the top of George&#8217;s recruitment as the five-star prospect approaches a decision. The Washington <a data-autotag=\"8cabe878-6334-4e53-a8f2-e59202955741\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/football\/ncaaf\/teams\/washington-huskies\/3470\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Huskies<\/a> have already made their NIL pitch and remain the favorite in the Rivals Prediction Machine, while the <a data-autotag=\"c21b4b23-e879-47f2-9a3e-abc30ff7e51d\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/football\/ncaaf\/teams\/auburn-tigers\/3480\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Auburn Tigers<\/a> are firmly in the mix. However, communication between George and the Sooners is picking up, and Oklahoma is looking to make a late push before George takes visits early in the season and ultimately makes his decision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">George would be a significant addition to Oklahoma&#8217;s 2028 class, particularly given Brent Venables&#8217; emphasis on building an elite defensive front. Washington has the advantage, but George&#8217;s recruitment is far from over. With visits expected early in the season, Oklahoma still has an opportunity to make up ground before he makes his decision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">For Venables and his staff, the goal is simple: turn the recent defensive success into recruiting momentum.
