As a result, there is a <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/best-a24-movies-list\/\" target=\"_blank\">lot of anticipation for A24 movies<\/a>, and 2026 is no different, with 12 movies on schedule, including <em>The Drama, How to Make a Killing<\/em>, and <em>Backrooms<\/em>. The video-on-demand comes just one month after the comedy was released in theaters on July 10.<\/p>\n<p>The comedy generated a fantastic $42.9 million at the global box office and became a rare summer comedy hit despite competition from blockbusters <em>The Odyssey<\/em> and <em>Spider-Man: Brand New Day<\/em>. With the total comprising $24 million domestically and $18 million overseas, the comedy has yet to be released in European markets like Spain, France, and Sweden. <\/p>\n<p>The hit movie is a remake of Cesc Gay&#8217;s 2020 Spanish movie, <em>The People Upstairs<\/em>. In <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/great-dysfunctional-relationship-movies-like-the-invite\/\" target=\"_blank\">the dysfunctional movie<\/a>, a couple whose marriage is on the rocks invites their free-spirited neighbors over for a dinner party. However, their conversation spirals into an offer for something more intimate.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"the-invite-39-s-box-office-success-is-vindication-for-nearly-going-straight-to-streaming\">\n                        The Invite&#8217;s Box-Office Success Is Vindication For Nearly Going Straight To Streaming<br \/>\n               <\/h2>\n<p>The box-office success is due to word-of-mouth and critical acclaim. <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/the-invite-movie-review\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Invite<\/em> reviews<\/a> praised Will McCormack and Rashida Jones&#8217; script, Wilde&#8217;s sharp and balanced direction, and phenomenal performances from the quartet cast of Seth Rogen, Wilde, Pen\u00e9lope Cruz, and Edward Norton. In addition, the movie takes place in a single location, allowing for a tense yet funny interaction between the two couples as the dynamic shifts when the twist unveils.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the comedy has a near-perfect 97% on Rotten Tomatoes after 267 reviews, while audience reception was favorable at 89%. Given the high praise from critics and audiences alike, it&#8217;s expected that <em>The Invite <\/em>will deliver similar success when it lands on home streaming. Additionally, the A24 movie is garnering award buzz, with all stars eyed for potential acting consideration. <\/p>\n<p>The box-office success is also vindication for Wilde, who fought for <em>The Invite <\/em>to get a theater release. While speaking to the press at the Locarno Film Festival, the director, who also helmed <em>Booksmart <\/em>and <em>Don&#8217;t Worry Darling<\/em>, spoke about the bidding war for the movie and revealed that one studio tried to push straight for streaming.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cThey bribe you to not take theatrical. We have to fight for it. It\u2019s a bribe. They pay you more. Not the filmmaker, no; the financiers will get a lot more money to go to streaming, and you can take that bribe and give that up if that\u2019s where your priorities lie. But we were really lucky that our financier gave me the opportunity to make this decision, which is something I don\u2019t take lightly. She could have very easily said no.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ultimately, A24 acquired the domestic distribution rights for $12 million and pushed for a platform release, which isn&#8217;t commonly used by studios these days since COVID. However, the strategy of launching in select theaters and then expanding nationwide worked in its favor to create buzz.<\/p>\n<p>While <em><strong>The Invite<\/strong> <\/em>will soon knock on viewers&#8217; doors with its home release, it&#8217;s expected to drop on HBO Max. As of writing, A24 has not announced that date.
