The order only issues recommendations, and <a href=\"https:\/\/wapo.st\/45REqVL\">as the Washington Post points out<\/a>, many states have already elected to stop relying on federal vaccine recommendations. It\u2019s certain to increase confusion over vaccine safety, though, and could throw up new administrative barriers for parents.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _10sa9omi itxwjq1 itxwjq0 pn04iq1\"><strong>Why does Trump care?<\/strong> Trump has long amplified baseless conspiracy theories linking childhood vaccines to autism; on Monday, he claimed that childhood vaccine doses are \u201cthe size of a bottle of soda poured into a little child\u2019s body.\u201d (They are not.)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _10sa9omi itxwjq1 itxwjq0 pn04iq1\">Parts of the order directly reflect Trump\u2019s personal hobbyhorses around vaccines, such as a recommendation to break up the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine into three separate shots; as the Post points out, those kinds of individual shots aren\u2019t even commercially available right now.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _10sa9omi itxwjq1 itxwjq0 pn04iq1\"><strong>What\u2019s the big picture?<\/strong> Monday\u2019s EO doesn\u2019t make any earthshattering changes, but it\u2019s concerning to see vaccine policy \u2014 or at least policy recommendations \u2014 made from the Oval Office. And the order will have another impact: Trump\u2019s attempts to dictate vaccine policy to states, combined with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.\u2019s year and a half plus of meddling, will only serve to further demolish America\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/health\/459226\/rfk-jr-trump-covid-vaccine-ban\">splintered public health consensus<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><h2 class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup\">And with that, it\u2019s time to log off\u2026<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _10sa9omi itxwjq1 itxwjq0 pn04iq1\">Have you heard about the fitness competition Hyrox, possibly against your will?
