Kennedy Jr., Trump made a range of misleading and incorrect claims about vaccines, including suggesting at one point that the MMR shot can be \u201cquite lethal.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmsnmtg52000g3b6rbnm1kub8@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            He alleged repeatedly and without evidence that children were being injected with more vaccines than they could handle, arguing that the shots should be spaced further apart. Pressed on his reasoning for recommending that infants receive their shots over five separate doctor visits, Trump said he\u2019d done it with his children and \u201chad no problem.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmsnmugd9000i3b6rycdy6bft@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cNothing bad can happen from what we\u2019re doing,\u201d he said of changes that health experts have long warned will reduce immunization rates and leave children more susceptible to disease. \u201cNothing bad can happen.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmsno1rxg00153b6rboeja4xl@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            GOP Sen. Bill Cassidy, a doctor who expressed hesitancy last year over confirming Kennedy to the HHS post due to his positions on vaccines and autism, immediately criticized the order.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmsno1sk100163b6rmi0mnmo8@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThis executive order is wrong. The President does not have the expertise to make these changes. Vaccines are overwhelmingly safe. Vaccines are effective. Vaccines DO NOT cause autism,\u201d Cassidy <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenBillCassidy\/status\/2086906268669624512\" target=\"_blank\">wrote on X<\/a>. \u201cBreaking up vaccines will mean children have to get more shots to get the same protection, not fewer shots. It will increase hesitancy and make children less safe.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmsnknkrs000r3b6rnzh2tc2j@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Under the order, the administration\u2019s new policy states that all children are recommended to receive vaccines for measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, Hib, pneumococcal disease, HPV and varicella, or chicken pox.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmsnknkrs000s3b6redpxwvgo@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Only high-risk populations are now advised to receive respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) monoclonal antibodies and vaccines against hepatitis A, hepatitis B, meningococcal B, meningococcal ACWY and dengue. That marks a change from the current schedule, which recommends that all children receive most of those shots.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmsnknkrs000t3b6rlafgbci1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Several of those, such as the hepatitis immunizations, would be based on what\u2019s called shared decision-making, or conversations with a healthcare provider. Those also include shots for rotavirus, meningococcal disease, influenza and Covid-19.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmsnmxe82000q3b6rcbtxpq34@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The administration\u2019s new guidance suggests that that the immunizations be given over several medical visits \u201cto give parents more options regarding the timing and frequency\u201d of administration. But Trump offered a far blunter explanation from the Oval Office: He didn\u2019t believe that the current regimen was safe.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmsnn660a000t3b6rjum8yeb2@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cVery simply: Large amounts of vaccine, large amounts of \u2014 like vats \u2014 of vaccine are currently pumped into your child\u2019s body,\u201d Trump said, at another point comparing the amount of vaccine given to children as \u201cthe size of a bottle of soda.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmsnn660a000u3b6rszdj0pi5@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWe\u2019re doing 20% of that at each visit, and we\u2019ll let time elapse between visits so the body can handle this massive amount of fluid being pumped in,\u201d he said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmsnn660b000v3b6r30r00r7y@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            There is no evidence to support Trump\u2019s claims.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmsnknkrs000v3b6r6fdkm597@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Trump\u2019s announcement hews closely to an HHS effort in January to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/01\/05\/health\/childhood-vaccine-schedule-overhaul\">whittle down the number of recommended vaccines<\/a> in the childhood schedule. Medical groups <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/01\/14\/health\/vaccine-recommendations-aap-block\">sued to challenge<\/a> that revised schedule, and a judge ruled in their favor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/03\/16\/health\/vaccine-policy-acip-lawsuit-decision\">writing in his opinion<\/a> that there are \u201cglaring gaps\u201d in expertise among the people Kennedy named to an independent advisory panel on vaccines last year.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmsnmw73z000n3b6rd26anne7@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Referencing that earlier effort, White House adviser Heidi Overton said Monday that administration officials \u201care going to be working directly with states so that we\u2019re not reliant on the court case to resolve. We are doing it right away so that parents get the benefit from state laws changing.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmsnnen1l00133b6retim2uyf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The vaccine announcement came shortly after Senate Republicans released 2021 text messages obtained from Dr. Anthony Fauci\u2019s government phone showing the former top health official discussing possible risks of the Covid-19 vaccine to pregnant women.
