It&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shreveporttimes.com\/story\/news\/local\/louisiana\/2026\/07\/28\/is-new-orleans-using-ai-to-answer-911-calls-instead-of-human-dispatchers-impacts-emergencies-crime\/91065014007\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\">still undergoing real-world testing<\/a> by operators, according to reporting by the Shreveport Times, but has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibtimes.co.uk\/new-orleans-ai-911-calls-1812890\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\">involved in triaging traffic-related emergency calls since at least 2023<\/a>. The city also introduced an AI tool for its 311 non-emergency services in April. <\/p>\n<section x-data=\"window.newsletter({ isDeal: false })\" x-init=\"init()\" aria-label=\"Newsletter Sign-Up\" class=\"relative invisible my-12 mx-auto w-full max-w-3xl md:my-16 ziff-component accent-cut-for-gradient-bg accent-cut-border-for-gradient-bg bg-gradient-fuchsia-secondary p-[2px]\">\n<p>\n            <span class=\"text-gradient-fuchsia-secondary\">Mashable Light Speed<\/span>\n        <\/p>\n<\/section>\n<p>New Orleans is one of several cities introducing AI into emergency and non-emergency call operations, and Carbyne is already working with public safety agencies across the country.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntia.gov\/category\/next-generation-911\/improving-911-operations-with-artificial-intelligence\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\">published a fact sheet<\/a> exploring the implementation of AI into emergency service operations, including testimony from early adopters like the Orleans Parish Communication District. The agency determined AI could assist in &#8220;automating initial detection and triage, streamlining call flow,&#8221; and reducing call load for human operators. The tool in question, developed by Denmark-based company Corti, monitored live medical calls and advised operators on where and when to dispatch immediate services. Corti&#8217;s AI was also deployed by Boston Emergency Medical Services, according to the company.<\/p>\n<p>Critics of such generative AI products have repeatedly raised concerns about caller data privacy, the potential for AI model bias when interacting with diverse populations of callers, and the limitations of AI-generated voice tools in general.
