And then I got back off the wagon,\u201d Pitt <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esquire.com\/entertainment\/movies\/a73336135\/brad-pitt-interview-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said with a laugh in an Esquire interview<\/a> published on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a more restrained manner. I got overconfident a couple times, went, Yep, nope, not good for me,\u201d he explained. \u201cNot in big quantities.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter interviewer for their sit-down at the actor\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/09\/02\/lifestyle\/brad-pitt-buys-12m-house-in-hollywood-hills\/\">$12 million Los Angeles home<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After revealing he\u2019s no longer sober, Pitt explained he \u201ccan have a few\u201d glasses of wine, but he \u201ccan\u2019t have a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have to be professional about it,\u201d he told the reporter. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>The Oscar winner (seen here) said he \u201ccan Esquire<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Elsewhere in the interview, Pitt \u2014 who split from ex-wife Angelina Jolie in 2016 \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/08\/10\/celebrity-news\/brad-pitt-felt-suicidal-navigating-family-stuff-10-years-after-angelina-jolie-split\/\">revealed he felt \u201csuicidal\u201d <\/a>while navigating \u201cone little period\u201d of \u201cfamily stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pain was so oppressive that \u2014 I wasn\u2019t going to act on this, but I could feel \u2014 I could feel the cold steel of the bullet in my head, and it felt like relief,\u201d\u00a0the \u201cFight Club\u201d actor said.<\/p>\n<p>Pitt quit drinking after an <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2022\/08\/19\/brad-pitt-allegedly-damaged-plane-during-angelina-jolie-fight\/\">alleged 2016 drunken plane incident <\/a>which is said to have contributed to the downfall of his and Jolie\u2019s marriage.<\/p>\n<p>Jolie, 51, claimed in court documents that her then-husband\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2022\/10\/04\/brad-pitt-allegedly-choked-hit-kids-during-angelina-jolie-fight\/\">physically harmed<\/a>\u00a0her and one of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/parents\/angelina-jolie-brad-pitt-kids\/\">their six kids<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 18.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cMr. and Mrs. Smith\u201d co-stars were\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2019\/03\/18\/brad-pitt-and-angelina-jolie-desperate-to-be-legally-single-again\/\">declared legally single<\/a>\u00a0in 2019 and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2024\/12\/30\/celebrity-news\/brad-pitt-and-angelina-jolie-settle-their-bitter-divorce-after-8-year-battle\/\">settled their href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/06\/18\/parents\/where-brad-pitt-stands-with-his-and-angelina-jolies-kids-report\/\">estranged from his eldest children<\/a> \u2014 first revealed he was sober and joined a 12-step program in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/09\/04\/movies\/brad-pitt-ad-astra.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2019 New York Times interview<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had taken things as far as I could take it, so I removed my drinking privilege,\u201d\u00a0he said at the time. <\/p>\n<p>Last year, Pitt <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/06\/23\/celebrity-news\/brad-pitt-details-first-aa-meeting-after-difficult-angelina-jolie-divorce\/\">detailed his \u201camazing\u201d first AA meeting<\/a> on Dax Shephard\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/armchairexpertpod.com\/pods\/brad-pitt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cArmchair Expert\u201d podcast<\/a>, recalling being \u201cpretty much on [his] knees\u201d and needing \u201cto wake the f\u2013k up in some areas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He explained, \u201cI was trying anything and everything, anything anyone threw at me. \u2026 It was a difficult time.
