Panis and fellow diver Eddie Huzzie, 68, then sent samples from the 19th century bottle to microbiologists at the research university KU Leuven in Belgium.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThere is always a chance that we can recover the complete DNA, and then we can do a small re-brew of the exact beer that was found in the 1860s,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cy4kx9zkd90o\">told the BBC.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Panis, who admitted he\u2019s not a huge fan of the stout, said the contents of the bottle might still be drinkable \u2013 but he\u2019s waiting for the analysis first.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter SWNS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThere is a possibility that it\u2019s still drinkable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe question is if the sea water has come into the bottles through the corks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf not, most likely the beer will still be drinkable.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He revealed that he would take a sip of the stout if he\u2019s given the green light to taste SWNS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He suspects there may be more than one bottle hiding within the wreckage of the barque, which sank three miles off the coast of Dover, England, on Nov. 27 1864 after colliding with the Khersonese, a sailing ship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeeing the size of the case, I think it is definitely a case of 24 bottles,\u201d he told the BBC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut there might be more cases.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Panis also contacted Diageo \u2013 the company which makes Guinness \u2013 and a spokesperson for the organization said, \u201cDiscoveries like this provide a fascinating window into our past and help build a deeper understanding of our heritage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurrently, our Guinness Archive team is liaising with the divers to gather more information and evaluate the
