Compound Drama &#8216;Yazz&#8217; Takes Main Locarno Pro Development Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFlorian Hoffmann\u2019s \u201cYazz,\u201d about a teenager growing up in a UN compound in the Central African Republic, celebrated two major wins at this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/locarno-pro\/\" id=\"auto-tag_locarno-pro\" data-tag=\"locarno-pro\">Locarno Pro<\/a> Awards for the <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/alliance-4-development\/\" id=\"auto-tag_alliance-4-development\" data-tag=\"alliance-4-development\">Alliance 4 Development<\/a> co-development platform for projects from Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSwiss-German-French co-production from <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/tellfilm\/\" id=\"auto-tag_tellfilm\" data-tag=\"tellfilm\">Tellfilm<\/a>, NiKo Film and Eaux Vives Productions beat out 10 other projects for top prizes. \u201cYazz\u201d took home both the Nebel Studios Award, estimated at CHF 30,500 ($37,678) for three days of studio use and five days of camera equipment, and the Studio13\/Valais Film Commission Award, estimated at close to $14,825 for five days of studio use at Studio13 in Valais, Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWhat really struck us about \u2018Yazz\u2019 is its unique and very personal perspective on a world we think we know, but rarely see from the inside,\u201d the jury stated. \u201cThe project has also shown to be at incredibly advanced stage of development that has already received strong recognition, with experienced co-production partners on board, great talent attached and development funding secured in Switzerland \u2014 confirming our belief in the project\u2019s artistic and production potential.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe Mas\u00e9 Studios Post-Production Award, worth nearly $31,000 in post-production services, was shared by queer and feminist coming-of-age musical \u201cCuore Matto,\u201d by Tamer Ruggli, produced by Francine Lusser and G\u00e9rard Monier of Switzerland\u2019s Tipimages Productions, and \u201cLes Orages Magn\u00e9tiques\u201d (\u201cMagnetic Storms\u201d) by Wendy Pillonel, produced by Flavia Zanon of Swiss shingle Close Up Films, a coming-of-age tale that explores the complexity of becoming a woman in a misogynistic environment. \u201cLes Orages Magn\u00e9tiques\u201dalso picked up the Midpoint Consulting Award, an online script consultancy with a Midpoint Institute expert.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cSparare alle Angurie\u201d(\u201cShooting Watermelons\u201d) by Antonio Donato, produced by Santiago Fondevila Sancet at Italy\u2019s Cinedora, received the Mas\u00e9 Studios Award, a cash voucher worth more than $3,706. The story centers on an authoritarian father and his two sons on vacation following a difficult separation and explores themes of power, masculinity and patriarchy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tJessica Puppo\u2019s \u201cLe R\u00e8gne des Silures\u201d(\u201cReign of Silures\u201d), produced by Alexis Perrin (Rumble Fish Productions, France), won the Ticino Film Commission Residence Award: a two-day location scout worth nearly $5,000 plus a letter of intent for financial support up to CHF 12,000 ($14,824) should the film shoot in Ticino.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBruce LaBruce\u2019s \u201cThird Take,\u201d produced by Nicolas Brevi\u00e8re (Local Films, France), took the Alphapanda Market Breakout Award consisting of consultancy services worth some $4,320.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<strong>Heritage Restoration Contest<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSince 2022, in collaboration with the Zurich-based Cinegrell film lab, the <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/locarno-film-festival\/\" id=\"auto-tag_locarno-film-festival\" data-tag=\"locarno-film-festival\">Locarno Film Festival<\/a>\u2019s Heritage Restoration Contest has been dedicated to bringing cinematic heritage back to life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThis year\u2019s prize went to 1997\u2019s \u201cNous sommes tous encore ici\u201d (\u201cWe\u2019re All Still Here\u201d) by Anne-Marie Mi\u00e9ville, a three-part meditation on philosophy and everyday life featuring Jean-Luc Godard in a rare on-screen role.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIt was selected by an international jury composed of Amy Homma, director and president of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and Academy Collection; Leslie Vuchot, CEO and founder of The Festival Agency; and Nicole T.
