(Seen here: Carradine and his daughter Ever in 2023.) <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>According to the filing obtained by TheWrap Sunday, \u201cRobert walked into UCLA\u2019s locked psychiatric unit \u2018feeling relieved to be hospitalized\u2019 and hoped that \u2018additional inpatient treatment would\u2019 reduce his anxiety.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>According to the filing, Carradine\u2019s \u201chopes for successful treatment didn\u2019t match the reality he had stepped into.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead of walking into a safe environment, he walked into a locked facility that broke a cardinal rule for a hospitalized psychiatric patient with active suicidal thoughts and a history of suicide attempts,\u201d the documents stated, referring to how \u201cUCLA let him walk into a locked psychiatric unit with a belt.<\/p>\n<p>A belt can be used to \u201ccause self-harm or hanging,\u201d and the \u201cLizzie McGuire\u201d alum\u2019s family argued that it\u2019s \u201cstandard\u201d for belts to be removed when a patient checks into a psychiatric hospital.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cHe was happy to be in a \u2018locked, structured environment\u2019 where he could rest \u2013 one that felt \u2018containing and helpful,&#8217;\u201d the documents read. (Seen here: Carradine attending the Los Angeles premiere of \u201cThe Unexpecteds\u201d in September 2025.) <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The filing alleged that not only did UCLA fail to \u201cconfiscate his belt\u201d but also \u201cleft a rolling bedside table in his room, which was not a standard piece of furniture in the locked psych unit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the documents, the late actor attempted to commit suicide 19 hours after he was admitted to the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Carradine \u201cnever regained consciousness\u201d and\u00a0\u201csuffered an anoxic brain injury\u201d that led him to spend \u201cthe next five weeks in the intensive care unit.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>UCLA also allegedly  \u201cleft a rolling bedside table\u201d in Carradine\u2019s room.
