{"id":34578,"date":"2026-08-09T13:39:44","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T08:39:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=34578"},"modified":"2026-08-09T13:39:44","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T08:39:44","slug":"tyga-admits-he-used-ai-on-new-album-tarface-i-dont-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=34578","title":{"rendered":"Tyga admits he used AI on new album &#8216;$tarface&#8217;: &#8220;I don&#8217;t care&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/tyga\">Tyga<\/a>\u00a0has confirmed that he used\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/tag\/ai\">AI<\/a>\u00a0as a \u201ctool\u201d on his new album \u2018$tarface\u2019 and said he\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0care if some listeners object to it.<\/p>\n<p>The Californian rapper released his ninth studio album on July 31, with the record taking\u00a0in influences from \u201980s synthpop as the artist adopts\u00a0his\u00a0new $tarface\u00a0persona.<\/p>\n<p>Some fans had\u00a0speculated\u00a0that some of the electronic sounds might have been made with AI, and now Tyga has confirmed those\u00a0rumours\u00a0in an interview with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vibe.com\/features\/editorial\/tyga-starface-album-used-ai-as-a-tool-1235182068\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Vibe<\/i><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never spoken on this with anybody because I always felt like it\u2019s similar to a magician explaining how he does his tricks,\u201d Tyga said.\u00a0\u201cLike why are people overexplaining how they make shit that\u2019s good?\u00a0If you like it, you like it; if you don\u2019t, you don\u2019t.\u00a0I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0care. It\u2019s supposed to give you an experience and a feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued: \u201cBut we definitely used AI as a [tool]. And I know people are going to be mad about me saying this, but\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0where technology is going.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0no different than when Auto-Tune came out. Some people were opposed to it, but real artists took\u00a0it and used it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked where the AI was used, he replied: \u201cWe were like, you know what? I need some \u201980s synths for a certain part of this song. I need a guitar\u00a0solo done\u00a0ASAP. Earlier this week,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/empire-of-the-suns-luke-steele-says-of-course-he-uses-ai-in-music-and-it-can-empower-artists-that-know-how-to-use-it-3960740\">Empire\u00a0Of\u00a0The\u00a0Sun\u2019s Luke Steele said that \u201cof course\u201d he uses AI\u00a0in his music<\/a>, calling it \u201cjust another tool\u201d and comparing it to \u201ca really smart guitar pedal\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think you\u2019ve got to be careful, you know? \u2018Cause it\u2019s so powerful that the AI is going to empower artists that know how to use it, and they\u2019re going to become unstoppable,\u201d he said. \u201cSo the artists that are against it: I think you\u2019ve gotta be careful, you know? Because it\u2019s going to come and swallow you like a boogie monster at night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/boy-george-says-he-used-ai-to-create-his-controversial-new-pro-israel-reggae-song-we-will-dance-again-3959572\">Boy George also said he used AI to help write his pro-Israel reggae song \u2018We Will Dance Again\u2019<\/a>, which eventually led to it being removed from Bandcamp for violating its AI rules.<\/p>\n<p>Others, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/mac-demarco-criticises-ai-generated-music-were-in-a-weird-place-3885311\">Mac DeMarco<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/sza-slams-ai-users-codependent-on-a-machine-please-google-how-much-energy-and-pollution-it-takes-to-run-ai-3878792\">SZA<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/lorde-hits-out-at-ai-generated-spotify-feature-we-dont-want-this-3957437\">Lorde<\/a>, have been far more critical of the growing influence of AI, with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/jack-antonoff-brands-ai-music-makers-as-godless-whores-3945363\">Jack Antonoff slamming musicians who use it as \u201cgodless whores\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/daft-punks-thomas-bangalter-slams-using-ai-to-create-music-is-a-way-to-bypass-the-creative-process-3961385\">Daft Punk\u2019s Thomas Bangalter also recently spoke out against it<\/a>, describing AI as \u201ca way to bypass the creative process\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/brands\/apple\">Apple Music<\/a>\u00a0shared plans to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/apple-music-will-know-let-you-know-if-youre-listening-to-music-made-with-ai-3933172\">let users know if they were listening to music that had been made using AI<\/a>. This followed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/new-study-finds-97-per-cent-of-people-cant-tell-the-difference-between-real-and-ai-music-3908402\">a study last year that revealed that 97 per cent of people \u201ccan\u2019t tell the difference\u201d between real and AI-created music<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/ai-generated-music-now-surpasses-50-per-cent-of-daily-uploads-on-deezer-3958464\">Deezer recently revealed that AI-generated music now surpassed 50 per cent of daily uploads on the platform<\/a>. In June,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/tidal-will-not-pay-royalties-to-ai-generated-songs-as-they-share-new-policy-3954072\">TIDAL confirmed that it would not be paying royalties for any music made entirely by artificial intelligence<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This summer, various music industry bodies from around the globe\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/music-industry-bodies-pen-open-letter-calling-for-consent-for-artists-and-songwriters-before-signing-ai-deals-3952367\">wrote an open letter calling on artists and songwriters to offer consent before going into any AI deals<\/a>.
