On Friday, he had announced he would loan his campaign $1 million.

Miller would have needed to formally withdraw from the race Saturday to provide enough time for a required two-day notice before a GOP committee meeting to certify a replacement by Monday at 4pm ET.

The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections website still showed Miller as an active candidate early Sunday.

Catch up quick: Miller faces allegations of domestic abuse from his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio). Miller denies the allegations and has sued his ex-wife for defamation.

Miller previously sued ex-girlfriend Stephanie Grisham, a former White House press secretary, after she also accused him of abuse. He denied her claims and dropped the suit under a 2023 settlement. She sued him last month for allegedly violating the terms of that settlement’s nondisparagement terms.

The House Ethics Committee said Tuesday it was investigating whether Miller “may have engaged in domestic violence and abuse or illegal drug use.” Miller had requested an investigation into himself, but the committee did not say his request triggered the review.

State of play: Miller already passed an Aug. 5 threshold that could have triggered a special-election process for replacing a congressional nominee.

Ohio Republicans’ last chance to replace him required he drop out and allow a committee made up of party officials to select his replacement before Monday at 4pm ET.

What he’s said: Last week, Miller announced he wouldn’t drop out in a video that brought even greater attention to the allegations.

He also released a curated dump of documents, photos and recordings. The files repeatedly named his young daughter and disclosed his ex-wife’s home address, and his attorney later apologized for failing to remove a sensitive image.

Sen. Moreno, his former father-in-law, has called on Miller to leave Congress, saying Miller endangers his daughter and granddaughter and isn’t fit to serve.

Between the lines: Miller faces Democrat Brian Poindexter, a union ironworker, in November.

President Trump carried the district by about 11 points in 2024, 10 points in 2020 and 12 points in 2016.

What to watch: The formal Monday certification deadline remains on the calendar, but unless Miller filed a timely withdrawal and the required committee notice was given, Republicans have no apparent way to certify a replacement based on his withdrawal.

Rep.
