{"id":34435,"date":"2026-08-09T11:25:55","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T06:25:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=34435"},"modified":"2026-08-09T11:25:55","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T06:25:55","slug":"florida-middle-school-student-14-arrested-after-allegedly-stashing-homemade-guns-for-robbery-plot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=34435","title":{"rendered":"Florida middle school student, 14, arrested after allegedly stashing homemade guns for robbery plot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F2%2F2026%2F08%2Fsheriff-says-julian-davis-14-136885836.jpg?quality%3D90%26strip%3Dall\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft wp-block-nypost-editor-partner-article-links\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>A\u00a0Florida\u00a0middle school student was arrested and charged as an adult earlier this year after allegedly creating his own homemade guns and explosives in preparation for a robbery, authorities said this week.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation into Julian Davis, 14, and his 13-year-old friend began April 27, when St. Johns County sheriff\u2019s deputies received a tip that the boys had been messaging each other on Telegram about \u201cholding someone at gunpoint\u201d to rob them, according to an arrest report.<\/p>\n<p>The alleged texts between the boys, who attended Switzerland Point Middle School, contained information about building a shotgun and musket and obtaining zip ties, according to the arrest report.<\/p>\n<p>Sheriff Robert Hardwick and federal investigators addressed the case publicly for the first time during a news conference Friday. <\/p>\n<p>Authorities said charging Davis, who they claim demonstrated an intense interest in\u00a0school shooters, could have prevented a \u201ctragedy\u201d at the middle school and the broader community.<\/p>\n<p>Davis was arrested April 30 and was charged as an adult with multiple gun and explosive offenses. Davis and his 13-year-old friend were both charged with conspiracy to commit a robbery with a gun. The younger boy was not charged as an adult.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Florida middle school student Julian Davis, 14, was arrested after allegedly stashing homemade guns for a robbery plot. <span class=\"credit\">St. Johns County Sheriff&#8217;s Office<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Between April 27 and 30, sheriff\u2019s deputies and federal agents conducted multiple searches of Davis\u2019 home, finding three homemade firearms, ammunition, suspected explosive components and makeshift handcuffs.<\/p>\n<p>Also found in Davis\u2019 home were handwritten notes depicting the construction of weapons and an apparent drawing of what appeared to be a Molotov cocktail, according to photos released by the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>Searches also revealed a tactical vest with \u201cWhite supremacy drawings\u201d and a copy of the manifesto by Brenton Tarrant, a White supremacist who, in 2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/08\/world-news\/new-zealand-mosque-shooter-brenton-tarrant-seeks-to-discard-his-guilty-pleas-saying-prison-made-him-irrational\/\">went on shooting sprees at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand,\u00a0killing 51 people<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Davis allegedly kept a homemade pistol, two bullets and brass knuckles in his stash. <span class=\"credit\">St. Johns County Sheriff&#8217;s Office<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Other items of concern found by authorities in Davis\u2019 home included a US Army improvised munitions handbook and a copy of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2017\/03\/23\/this-60s-anarchist-has-no-regrets-over-his-bomb-making-guide\/\">\u201cThe Anarchist Cookbook,\u201d<\/a> a 1971 book that contains instructions on how to make explosives, weapons and illicit drugs.<\/p>\n<p>Hardwick said Davis and his friend had planned to rob someone named CJ, though investigators have been unable to determine who CJ is.<\/p>\n<p>Based on this evidence, plus online searches by Davis, Hardwick said there was a \u201cmuch bigger picture than just a robbery of that individual.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Homemade shotguns found in Davis\u2019 Florida home during searches by sheriff\u2019s deputies and federal agents in late April. <span class=\"credit\">St. Johns County Sheriff&#8217;s Office<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cDavis was using his devices in his home to research things. He had a [fixation] with people that had committed these mass school shootings, people that have gone in and done these mass stabbings,\u201d Hardwick said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, he was actually spending a lot of his time on there going through these high-profile cases. And it\u2019s something that he actually wanted to emulate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Davis is still in custody at the St. Johns County Jail on $240,000 bond, the sheriff said. He pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and is scheduled to be arraigned again next month.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The findings also included numerous ammunition along with shotgun shells and bullet casings. <span class=\"credit\">St. Johns County Sheriff&#8217;s Office<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Davis\u2019 attorney, Jill Barger, expressed concern that Davis had spent four months \u201cin an empty pod\u201d at the jail. She told Fox News Digital he has grown frightened and depressed, while accusing the state of not providing him \u201cthe resources he needs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barger also slammed the sheriff\u2019s office for publicly announcing the charges, calling it an attempt to \u201cinfluence jurors ahead of trial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJulian never even thought about harming anyone,\u201d Barger said in a statement to Fox News Digital. \u201cThe police were reckless and cruel to suggest they prevented a mass casualty event. There is no evidence of this. No writings by Julian, no threats, nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Davis\u2019 friend, with whom he was texting about the alleged robbery, spent 21 days in the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice before being released, the sheriff said.<\/p>\n<p>Neither of the boys will be allowed to return to their school.
