Stanton had been running the bases in June, when he was nearing a return from the original calf strain and suffered another.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Asked to clarify whether Stanton had run the bases, Boone reiterated that he \u201cintroed it in a light way [Friday].\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Boone has been consistently vague regarding developments concerning Stanton (and Aaron Judge) and did not want to shed further light on Stanton\u2019s status.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019ll be there when we get him there,\u201d Boone said before<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/08\/sports\/yankees-offense-does-the-job-in-second-straight-win-over-braves\/\"> the 5-4 win over the Braves<\/a> in The Bronx.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure \u00b9\/\u2082 months.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Asked if Stanton is closer to returning in a week or in a month, Boone said, \u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not going to get in the predicting game of it,\u201d Boone added of Stanton, who faced live pitching for the first time this week since suffering the second calf strain. \u201cWe expect him back, and I would say he\u2019s doing quite well, but \u2018at what percent [he is running],\u2019 they\u2019ll tell me when it\u2019s time.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<p>Gerrit Cole (seven innings, two runs on six hits with no walks and nine strikeouts) was excellent and consistently around the zone, 60 of his 82 pitches going for strikes. To begin the fifth, Mauricio Dub\u00f3n (double), Mike Yastrzemski (double), Austin Riley (single) and Jim Jarvis (single) rapped off four consecutive hits that plated a pair of runs and gave the Braves a narrow and brief lead.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But with a pair of runners on base and the game perhaps in the balance, Cole used a biting slider to strike out Drake Baldwin, got Ronald Acu\u00f1a Jr. to fly out and then needed just three pitches \u2014 the third a 98.8 mph fastball \u2014 to strike out Matt Olson, whom Cole has owned in his career.
